Free Period (of seven days)

You’re later than usual this time because he is already there waiting for you. A little weird, you feel, because you await him normally. He waves when he looks your way and you wave back with your free hand - the other is holding a hanky. He asks, “Are you sick?” soon as you sit. He looks worriedly at you. “I think I caught a cold” you reply and sneezed for the nth time that day. “Didn’t I say get a jacket yesterday?” You feel alright - he cares for you. “No, I thought I did not need one because I was all warm and fluffy after I read your text” You smile sheepishly and he rolled his eyes at you. “That doesn’t mean you don’t need extra clothes, silly” You chuckle and he rolled his eyes again. “What’s so funny?” he asks. “You sound like my grandpa” you answer simply. “Grandpa?” he voices.  “Well, at least you’re a cute grandpa” and that’s the first time you see him blushing - too cute, in your version. “So, are you coming to my game after school?” he changes the subject; and you did not mind. Right. Today is the soccer match with the other school. “Yeah, of course I’ll be there” He thinks for a while. “No, you better stay home. You’re not well” he says, telling you not to go. “I’ll bring tissues. Lots of them” you reply with little puppy eyes. “No” he says again. “Don’t you want me to be there?” He immediately responds to that. “Of course I want…you to be there” the line trails off a little but it was still audible to you. “I’ll be there, and I insist” you tell him, looking right in his eyes. “Okay, just promise to take care of yourself” and you promised him that.

You want to watch him play, to cheer for him - at least for once.
