After being shot officer Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) wakes up in an empty hospital. Finding the world he knew gone and replaced with a zombie infested new one and his wife and son missing. After learning that Atlanta is a safe zone he sets off to search for his family.
I'm a fan of zombie movies and this goes on my "can't miss " list. Since I can't watch Alice and RE continuously (although I've tried) I'll take Rick Grimes and The Walking Dead as the next best thing.
Full of everything that makes zombie watching fun including hordes of decaying walking dead ...or in some cases crawling, big guns, exploding heads and plenty of emotional drama.
While I did see a few plot holes that urked me (really would Rick's family leave him lying in a hospital bed while they run to safety?) it didn't take away from my total enjoyment of the story. It does have a goodly amount of gore that is usual fare in zombie flicks but it doesn't rely on the use blood and guts as it's sole purpose as some zombie movies do.
I do like that this show seems to be more character driven than plot driven. While the zombie outbreak is the catalyst that moves the characters, the characters are the story. Who they are and the choices they make looks like what will propel them through the story.
I can't wait to find out the hows and whys of this strange new world that Officer Grimes has woken up in.
