So much to update, so little time. This week is probably the busiest I’ll be and have been in a very long time. I’m subbing for Lisa while shes away at BurningMan-and am working double shifts cause I’m doing as much as I can at the shop. And seeing PC clients. So everyday is pretty much get up aroun 630-7, jam off to the shop with no breakfast, work there till 830, jam into Berkeley, work till about 1230-1 answering phones and hurredly answering emails that I can get to-then jam back to Oakland to spend 20 mins at the shop with the employees, figure out some mobile food, then jam back to work till 5 at Thornwall as a computer tech doing some memory upgrades and wireless networking… then a half hour break, and my PC clients appts start.
I feel bad cause Ive been having super probs with the Palm Pilot lately-its dying requireing rebooting 3-5x a day. Sometimes I lose the memory banks and forget stuff-which I did Monday. I missed a PC appointment-they were cool about it and I figured I could get them done with last night between 5 and 645 when I was supposed to go climbing.
But first I get hella lost getting there, and then major probs kept me there bogged down. I love it when husband wife and yes, sometimes dog sit there watching you work. Publisher borked on me, I had to copy a few thousand files in blocks of 200 at a time to get around a bad section on a cd. They didn’t go with a Linksys wireless network, went with 2-Wire-and therefore the desktop I revamped for them with a wireless card didn’t connect smoothly at all-- on one hand I did solve all their problems, but didn’t get out of there till 830, well late for climbing. Money is money, and I need it to cover bills so I’m thankful for the work. So I had to bail on climbing, bumming Lila out considerably. On top of that all I got horribly lost leaving the place and ended up wasting another 30 mins getting home.
Other gem of happiness-I got rear ended last Saturday on the way to a friends BBQ/Bday party. The guy was totally speeding, screeched his tires, and hit me… jumped out of the car and was like “are you insured?” Yes I replied but it turns out he didn’t have proof of insurance at the time. He was covered….pics are at
http://geoff.halogen.org/Media/Pics/car/Index.html so yesterday I get home after all this and hear the Progressive Insurance guy telling me he thinks I’m at fault! So now the insurance people get to argue-I cant believe it. I was angeled like 5-10 degrees off the perpendicular (because I was about to make a left hand turn across the road) when he hit me, so his impact wasn’t square in the back, but on the left side quadrant… bah!
So I was burnt last nite-sooo tired. I got back and Addison I guess could tell I was fried…. He was like “doood come here” and gave me a big ole warm hug. Damn good friends and warm hugs rule.
I just decided to call it quits and get some sleep.
And I’m doing remarkably better! Today was 8am at the shop again but got our computer up and running, and the employees are great. We underpaid them last time but they are cool with me making it right-the people is what is gonna make that company great. I’m glad I can finally be in a position to make someone successful, help me get ahead financially, and help encourage people at the same time. I’ll make a plurry company out of them yet-even though they don’t know it!
The memory project is going ok. Wireless project going ok.
My brother got the time off in September for he and my dad and I to go hike halfdome! Yay. It will be a precursor warm up run for the Oct SG hike. ;) I cant wait. I hope we connect and talk and really grow closer instead of the typical stoic men hangout time.
This weekends party is also greatly inspiring me. Good friends, intimate setting, music, doggies, old friends, new stargazers. A real time for connection, reflection, encouragement. Its these little gatherings that will help stoke the fire for SG13. There is a newbie who might see things hes never seen before-and my newbie for SG13 will hopefully be there-so much potential for great stuff. We’re booked on Saturday for Robs Wild Ride Aqua Bus around the Bay. The party is going to start there, and just go and go and go and well-it’ll be a wicked time ;) Much needed for all I’m sure.
More philosophical-there are times when you feel deep inside that you are missing something, that you should be somewhere else-you really should be there doing something. That’s what I’m feeling about Burning Man. It’s the 2nd year in a row I didn’t trust myself and just GO and make it happen. No more, in a month or so I’m gonna start making plans for next year. I’m bummed I’m misisng the Psy/Goa camp. From the nightly webcasts, the experiences my good friends are having out there-good and bad-I’m missing it and them. Sigh!
I’m also getting semi sentimental about leaving Thornwall. It really is and was a blessing in disguise. Who knew that subbing for Bonnie while she and Tchuk were in London last winter would turn out to be what it did for me. By far it wasn’t a dream job. It was a very stressful, humbling and shit eating job that didn’t hack it financially for me. But. It gave me the opportunity to meet a lot of really cool, wise, older people. I respect more now. And the financial lift it did give me well, kept me clothed and fed and in the Bay area. I’m going to miss the gems that are some of these people. Its definitely a chapter in my life that’s falls in to the “totally unexpected, mildly nutty, better run with it” category. Next Wednesday is my last day… I might come back from time to time to do some tech stuff. But I’m extremely thankful for it.
Lots of things, from my currrent job, my new job, to heck nearly every aspect of my life fit into that “totall unexpected, not what I was thinking, but glad to have it and better run with it to see what it is” flavor. I really thought I’d be back in the tech world by now. But I’m actually excited about the future now. I can get back to taking care of business kinda. Back to working on Stargaze part time. Maybe I’ll get time here to get back to creating some new music and tracks.
I can feel things changing / growing / evolving - whatever one calls it. I know things seem rough, but they arent that bad-a walk down Shattuck ave to talk to the homeless, a visit with someone who has lost their family all around them to death and disease, a moment understanding how fleeting life is… and it puts it all in perspective.
I’m damn lucky to be here living my life.
So heres to the rest of this nutso week, heres to all the burning man kin-may your burn be the best. Send me some tasty vibes and recollections from the Temple this year. And heres to celebrating very yummy things this weekend. Heres to a successful time in Yosemite with my brother and I, to the SG retreat in Yosemite in Oct, and of course… SG13.
Yeeehaw!
