Ten Things You Might Not Know About Hinata Hyuuga
One.
Hinata keeps a shelf dedicated to those she knew in this strange world, but were lucky enough to be sent back home. Their names, a keepsake if she was lucky enough to receive one, gifts she never got to give or gifts she was unfortunate to receive back, something that reminds her of them, flowers and candles. Because memories are precious. Because memories are fickle. Because she knows it's easy to forget, and she doesn't want to forget.
She keeps it across from her bed, so that they are the first on her mind when she wakes up in the morning and the last when she lays down for bed at night. Because they are that precious.
Two.
She refuses to be a damsel needing to be saved. She tried that once, when she was three. After that birthday, she would lay down at night and dream about the day when a gallant shinobi would whisk her out of her bed and out of her life. She would dream about what he would look like and what she would say and the kind of life she could live.
This dream came true in a way. But not the child's fairy tale way. Instead it was twisted by politics and attempted kidnapping and an almost war and the death of an uncle. She never dreamed of that again.
Instead she realized that if she wanted a different life, she'd have to work for it. That life is what she made of it. But she never had the courage for doing so until she was twelve. She only looks back to remind herself of who she has been.
Now at seventeen, instead of waiting around for a rescue that may not come, she saves herself.
Three.
Of all the flowers she learned about and presses, her favorite is called Datura innoxia or the "Angel's Trumphet". It only shows its beauty during the night, when the world is dark.
And it's poisonous enough to be deadly.
Four.
When Hinata was younger, she used to cry a lot. She would run out of the doujou and cry after every lost fight. She would cry herself to sleep at night wondering why she wasn't good enough. She'd cry because she was lonely and alone in a house where she wasn't wanted.
These days she still cries. Not because she's sad, but because she's happy.
Five.
She doesn't wear her jacket because she's cold or insecure. To be honest, she finds it to be a hassle; it gets in the way during training and the heat is nearly unbearable in the summer.
She wears it because she's a ninja. For her, being a kunoichi comes first. Before being a woman, before being the Hyuuga heiress. And when she attacks her targets, she wants them to give their all in the fight. Not distracted by her body.
Six.
Hinata can handstand, supporting her entire weight on her hands while doing the splits.
Seven.
For the most part, she is completely talentless in the domestic department. She can clean, of course, though it may be to an obsessive degree. However she can't sew, her cooking is only average at best, she has no taste for fashion or high society things, and she's probably not the best person to be raising a child.
But she does know how to tie bandages, how to make the perfect cup of tea, how to get blood out of clothing without a stain, and how to listen.
Eight.
She dislikes anyone doing anything for her that she can do herself. It's too similar to being served. She refused to have family members wait on her back home, and she refuses to rely on the castle ghosts or even residents to do things for her. What she does will be done with her own hands and by her own doing.
Nine.
She'll never admit it, but every morning she lies in bed trying to recount all the details she can remember about her family. Only to find that with each passing day, she remembers less and less. Her memories are now becoming just a collection of emotions and words and gaussian images.
Ten.
For all that she loves one person, she has never wanted to be loved in return by him. She doesn't want to be a girlfriend or a lover or a wife; they would eclipse being a kunoichi and the Hyuuga heiress. Being in a relationship has never been in her plans.
So she can say, "I love you," to him without needing an answer. So she can almost die for him without any thanks. Because that is what kunoichi do: they tell the simple truths and they always protect their comrades.
