Fashionably late.

It didn't take long for the young woman who had been attacked in the alley to be admitted to the hospital. She had lost some blood, but not enough to necessitate a transfusion. In fact, from what I had managed to overhear the doctor tell the nurses on duty, they were more concerned about the head trauma she had undergone, rather than the neckwound she was sporting. She was conscious now -- she had come to before we ever reached the hospital. There was no doubt in my mind that she would be all right given the circumstances. I took my leave, headed toward Fred's apartment. Whatever it was that had happened there, I only hoped that I wasn't too late.

I couldn't help but to allow my thoughts to drift from worrying about Fred to worrying about Drusilla as I walked, however. The fact that she was back in Los Angeles was unsettling, that was for certain. From what I could tell based on our meeting in the alley earlier, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It had appeared that Drusilla was telling the truth -- that she hadn't harmed the girl .. but did she really save her? The last time I had seen Dru, she and Darla were up to their old tricks again. What could have happened that might make her help humans rather than .. kill and them? Was it some sort of ploy to get me to trust her? Whatever it was, I was certain that I hadn't seen the last of her -- change or not.

Finally, I approached Fred's apartment building. There didn't seem to be any signs of a struggle from outside, which could be a good thing. On the other hand .. Shaking the thought from my mind, I quickly ascended the staircase up toward Fred's apartment. I just hoped that nothing had happened. That I wasn't too late to prevent something horrible from happening to her, or one of the others.
