Withdrawal's a Bitch

Jun 01, 2008 20:20

Who: Mere and Lexi
Where: Lexi's House
When: November 1st, afternoon

Lexi knew Meredith would help her. She just knew. That was the reason for the frantic message left on the girl's answering machine. Lexi made little sense, rambling about getting to her house ASAP, that she needed her.

Meredith frowned at the message on her answering machine, but called Lexi back anyway. "Lexi? What's going on?"

Lexi was able to pick the phone up, but barely. She muttered only a few words: "please... help... me..." before letting the phone drop to the floor. She knew the girl would come. She'd have to. She fell to the floor, sobbing and shaking, waiting for her would-be savior.

That did not sound like the Lexi that she knew. Mere ran for her van and was soon at Lexi's house, banging on her door.

Nobody answered... although the front door was opened a crack.

Mere pushed the door open, intent on finding Lexi.

Lexi was curled in a crippled-looking position on the floor, pale and drooling slightly, tears running silently from her eyes.

"Lexi? Lexi, what the hell happened?" Mere asked, getting down on the floor with her.

"Can't... do it no more..." Lexi wanted to cry more, but could just physically not handle it anymore. "No more drugs..." She was clearly going through withdrawal... "Been... three days..."

Mere pulled Lexi toward her, practically pulling the girl into her lap. "Three days? That's good. You can't do stuff like this alone, though."

"Want it... so bad..." Lying on the floor was the new issue of a local music magazine called Shred. She was on the cover, and next to it was a notebook with numbers and dates scribbled in it. "Need to help us..."

"What have you been working on?" Mere asked, stroking her hair a little while looking over the notebook.

"M'old band... wants... me back..." Lexi curled into Mere more, looking for the comfort she needed. "Told 'em... only if I could be in both..."

"You really want to stay with us, too?" That actually made her very happy.

"Told 'em... had to do both, or no way. But they want me... totally clean..." She couldn't stop shivering, and it was both torturous and infuriating.

"Do you have a blanket anywhere, for the chills?" Mere looked around the room.

"N-No..." She did, but she had no clue where it was. Common sense wasn't a huge option at the moment. "Just wanna be.... clean..."

"I know...let me find you a blanket, ok?" She slowly pulled away and went off to find a blanket, finally just pulling Lexi's blanket off of her bed. She came back in the living room and wrapped it around her.

"I want it so bad..." she was talking more to herself now, as she craved the drugs so badly she could almost feel them calling to her.

"It's ok, Lexi." She pulled her in her lap again. "I'm going to help you get through this, okay? We'll pull through."

"Oh god, Meredith..." Lexi found the strength to cry again, pulling herself more into the other girl. "I'm s-so sorry..."

"Sorry for what?" she asked, stroking her hair, again. She seemed to like that before.

"I let 'em... make me an ugly, ugly person..." Not that Lexi was ever a sweetheart. But the cold, manipulative bitch? That was the drugs.

"Well, if you can get off of the drugs, you don't have to be that way, anymore." She hugged her close and started to rock her back and forth a little.

Lexi nodded, and groaned. "You'll help me?"

"Of course I'll help you, Lexi. I am your friend," Mere said.

"I don't know if I can do... this... it's so hard..." She looked like if she tried to curl up any tighter, she'd just pop.

"Well, this is something that can only be taken one day at a time. You know, one step and all that jazz." She looked around. "Do you want me to get you something to drink or anything?"

"Mouth is so dry..." she nodded gently.”Water, please..."

"Sure, I'll go and get some water," Mere said, slowly pulling away and going to the kitchen to fix her a glass of water.

Lexi closed her eyes as tightly as she could. This? Was not gonna be easy.

lexi, mere
