In the desert, you can't remember your name...

Who: Xavier and Emil
Where: Xavier's house
When: Sunday evening

Xavier was meditating in his den, and seemed at peace.

Emil headed in to the den to talk to Xavier - but stopped in the doorway when he noticed his mentor was meditating. He didn't want to interrupt the inner calm.

Xavier commented, without opening an eye, "Good evening, Emil."

"Hey," Emil said. "Am I interrupting?"

"No, it's alright." Xavier stretched. "What's on your mind?"

"I just wanted to talk to you about our desert trip," Emil said, and settled in to a chair.

"Ah, yes... what about it?" Xavier asked.

"Well, the other night I was out with Chris and his sister and her boyfriend," Emil began, "and we were discussing UFOs, of all things. Gil has an interest in them..."

"Mhmm?" Xavier listened.

"And he had reports of unusual weather patterns in the desert - and I told him about the trip we have planned, and they sort of want to come along... all three of them," Emil said, slightly distressed as he was worried Xavier might not approve.

Xavier chuckled. "Yes... there's unusual things out there sometimes. But if they're hoping for flying saucers, I fear they'll be disappointed."

"Still... they want to come along," Emil asked. "Would you be opposed to that?"

"I suppose I wouldn't mind," Xavier answered.

"Good," Emil said. "Thank you. I told them I'd ask you..."

Xavier nodded. "Would -you- mind, though?"

"Not mind exactly, but..." Emil fidgeted a bit. "I think Chris might like me. He asked me to dance."

"Like you as a friend, or as a date to the Lilith Fair?" Xavier inquired.

"The latter," Emil said, chagrined. "Why does everyone seem to think I'm homosexual?"

"Because you're shy, which to most people equals gay," Xavier shrugged.

Emil sighed. "I like Chris as a friend, but..."

"Well, unless you have a distinct enjoyment of testicles, I suspect you aren't gay," Xavier commented, amused.

Emil pondered this. "Not even my own are that exciting," he said.

"There you go, then," Xavier concluded.

"Oh.. there was another thing that occurred while I was out," Emil said.

"Aside from men propositioning you again?" Xavier inquired.

"Aside from that. There was a strange incident outside the club- a woman and a man were arguing, then the woman overturned the car the man was in," Emil said.

"Oh, really?" Xavier looked interested. "What happened next?"

"I headed over to help - but she threw a car part at me. A bumper, to be exact." Emil winced. "I failed to dodge. But after I dug out from under that, I went to help the man. But then I realized something was wrong.."

"Go on," Xavier said.

"The man seemed amused, not endangered. Some other folks were there- kids from the school. They set the lady on fire, and her skin started to bubble before she disappeared," Emil said. "And the man handed me his business card and told me to give him a call if I was interested in changing professions." He took out his wallet, and retrieved the card to hand to Xavier.

"Hmm. Interesting..." Xavier eyed the card. "I imagine they could use a few good men, given their success to date."

"His name is J. Ewing. Jewing... hah. Well, I found it funny," Emil said, slightly embarrassed by his lame sense of humor.

"Hm..." Xavier chuckled. "Cute. Do these people even try to think of human names?"

"I don't think they're very good at it," Emil said, chuckling too. "Ah, well. Makes them easier to find."

"True, true." Xavier nodded.
