Lack of Courtesy

Kyla and I were actually having a rather normal time. Sitting at the Expresso Pump. Sipping our respective drinks, discussing college majors. It was like a scene from Dawson's Creek or Felicity. Oh! I love that Felicity! Okay, so a bit behind the current trend of JJ Abrams shows, but there was a bit of time in the 90's there were I was pretty bored ( Read more... )

"Well it does take away some of the stress, and makes us at least appear to be normal adults for a moment, instead of in-transition students."

I smiled at that thought. It was very true. For a lot of students, myself included, it was most likely their first time living away from home. And I could imagine the various members of the resident population were dealing with it in various ways to various degrees. Little things like having a nearby coffee shop to go to probably did help a great deal.

"Hey.. did you hear that?"“That I did,” I replied, craning my head in the direction the noise was coming from as well. It would have been a bit hard not to, as whatever discussion seemed to be going on outside was steadily increasing in volume. The din hadn’t gotten too loud just yet, but as we were sitting near the entrance and the front windows were open, we did have a somewhat better view than most inside at the moment ( ... )

"Who asked for your opinion pale boy? I don't see anyone else here but me, and I definitely didn't ask for it."

"Hey!" It was my turn now to reach out and place a protective hand on Oz, meeting his eyes just for a moment. "That's not....Fred," I pleaded, not sure when I decided to become so invested. "What is wrong?"

Because everything 'being alright' wasn't even close to an option anymore. Something was very, very off.

"Do I look okay to you, you little twit? First I try cover up a zit with a tiny spell that gives me the worse rash I have ever seen on a person. Then I sleep with some wanna be rogue demon hunter that just so happens to annoys the crap out of me."

"A spell," I echoed, trying to put it all together. "And, and - it didn't work right?" I considered more of Fred's words, even as I recalled our topic over coffee. "Wait...and Wesley??"

This was a lot.

A little and a lot.

"It's a simple question. A courtesy, even. She's just asking 'cause she's worried about you. And, for the record, she didn't ask what was wrong with ( ... )

“That I did,” Kyla turned her head to try and get a better look at the scene just outside the shop. It was loud, and at least I wasn't just hearing things. I leaned over trying to look beyond Kyla and get a grasp on who was fighting like that. My eyes focused on the back of someones head. Was that... oh dear.

I had almost forgotten about the succubus. Here was Willow with.. was that? Oz?? Apparantly upset with some strange girl. Although perhaps they didn't think she was the succubus. I had told them that she was blonde... this girl was clearly brunette. However it did leave the question as to what was going on about the search for her. She was still out there. In fact if I remember the teacher in my one class mentioned something about businesses in Sunnydale suffering because of death like the one recently at... the .. Magick Box. Oh no. This can't be good. Why was I just thinking of it all now? I felt ridiculous. So wrapped up in being normal I didn't even recall what I had been doing the day before.

“Hmm, drinks and a show, how… ( ... )

Something... something was happening to me. My thoughts- they were... different, changing. All I felt was a sudden rage, everything, and everyone was irritating, and bothersome. This people... Willow, why- I-

"A spell,"

"Do I need to repeat myself or something here?"

"And, and - it didn't work right? Wait...and Wesley??"

"Does it look like it worked?!” I shouted pointing at my face. "And Wesley? Who cares about Wesley. The dimwit just royally annoyed the crap out of me."

But no, he really hadn't until... What the hell was going on? My skin was burning, I needed to fix this now. I need to leave, I- the rage, why? I looked at them again and I truly wanted to hurt them. Everything seemed so different. People, all of them, their scent... different. His scent was different, human, but something else. Still, I just wanted to tear each of them apart.

"Hey, Willow.. Oz... and girl I don't know. Sorry to barge in but you all were being extremely loud. This is Kyla."I looked at them. More people... Why couldn't they just ( ... )

I stood slightly aside as the brunette moved to push her way through the small group. There seemed to be something…odd about her as well. Aside from seemingly being chronically angry, that is. Almost as if the things she was doing and saying, she wasn’t entirely meaning to. There was a slight hesitation to the movements, an almost undetectable hitch in the speech. Looks like there was a plethora of interesting people in this town. One needed only to know where to look ( ... )

So Tara had thought I was acting odd. She even accused me of things that.. well were true, but I hadn't been that bad. This girl, whoever she was... was acting a lot more odd than I had been.

"What do ya'll run in packs or something? I- I need to go... I need to... move!"She pushed her way from the group and I watched her rush by. There was something more than wrong with that girl. Willow had a look of concern on her face, however that could just be Willow. She always looked worried. Of course hanging around Buffy might do that to a person. It seemed that wherever Buffy went there was trouble. It had to do some serious damage to her skin ( ... )

"So, Willow and Oz! What were you two off to do, before we interupted you?"

I took time to look briefly over at Oz and smile, remembering our afternoon together. There were very few things that were better than that - maybe none at all.

"We were actually just heading in to get some coffee, but..."

My voice trailed off as I remembered another talk with caffinated smiles, and it only cemented just how off this whole scene had been. Distressed, I continued to watch Fred storm down the street.

"Hey," I turned to Oz softly. "Mind if I take a rain check, even though it isn't raining?" When he nodded in understanding, I leaned forward to place a kiss on his cheek. "Thank's."

That settled I turned back to Anya and her friend. "It was great meeting you, and nice...seeing you again too Anya. But I have to run now, and check on a few things. Thank's for the chat!"

I whispered one last time in Oz's ear, letting him know I would be walking. I had a few stops to make, and a certain almost-friend to follow.

So all of a sudden this was extremely awkward. In more ways than one. First that girl stormed off, then Willow followed, and so I was left there with Oz the one word guy, and Kyla my attempt to make myself seem normal, which was a big fat lie.

So we all stood there for a few moments, looking at each other sort of blank staring and trying to figure it out.

"Well I think this little meeting has met it's end. I know that I actually have to take off. I don't want to leave you alone with a stranger, so maybe we can catch up sometime next week? I will try not to space out during class, maybe we can hang out afterwards?"

Kyla nodded and said something about something she had to do as well, and Oz... well was Oz and said not much. We all parted ways and I was on my way to find Parker... hopefully still alive and very much attracted to me.
