Yeah, Royal Wedding cuteness on your flist, deal wit it.
So last night I discovered that I am a giant girl. I was kind of excited for the Royal Wedding mostly for her dress, but I guess also, like...you know. HISTORY. Or something. Anyway, about 3 hrs beforehand I was starting to get really impatient, hahaha. Oh dear. I was getting so excited. But how BEAUTIFUL was her dress! I'm not even INTO weddings and I thoroughly enjoyed this. I don't really give two bits about traditional wedding dresses, and it made me so happy to see her in such a gorgeousss dress. That lace! And neckline! And hello, sexy bridesmaid. How hot is her sister? That dress = kind of stole Kate's moment hahahaha. But a very lovely wedding, love the trees in the Abbey, niiice. And uh, two things: When Harry looks behind as Kate's walking down the aisle, and he turns to Will and goes something like 'She looks beautiful!' and when she gets there, and Will's all 'You look beautiful' NAWWWWW. Yeah, weddings turn me to mush apparently.
Oh, and the kiss on the balcony. TIMES TWO. Will you dirty dog!
Alright, enough about the wedding (but who thinks Prince Harry hooks up with Pippa, yeaaaaaah you're all thinking it)
OK so like, Easter was like a week ago but I haven't been bothered to update so it's a bit late.
Dad came home on Thursday, and we spontaneously decided to go on a bit of a roadtrip on Saturday to the Mid West. But before i go into that, Good Friday I made the most awesome dinner. Potato salad, rocket and parmeson salad, and grilled fresh fish. It looked amazing. A whole fish to each of us hahaha. So healthy!
Anywhoozle, so we left on Saturday morning. Dad sort of suggested this because out in mid west NSW there are a lot of mining towns, and a lot of ghost towns where there was mining many many years ago. And I briefly was looking into this for an assignment but am not sure I'm going to go through with it. But dad was pretty interested in investigating and so was I! So, we left rainy Sydney, drove up the Blue Mountains where it is, no joke, I swear ALWAYS foggy. Beautiful! Then we decided to take a 'scenic' route down to Lithgow which was basically THE SCARIEST ROAD I'VE EVER BEEN DOWN. A very narrow, very windy, dense climb down the mountain. You couldn't see around corners and SO many times you'd like, nearly run into people coming around the corner from the other direction. So much white knuckling.
Got to Lithgow in the arvo, booked into a motel, and went for a bit of a drive before dinner. It was such good photo taking weather. As soon as we got to the bottom of the mountains, the weather like, became perfect, which I find frustrating for the kind of photos I take. But later in the afternoon fog started rolling into Lithgow, and the sun was going down, and it showered for a bit and it was so lovely!
Lithgow's a really old, historic town, big mining back in it's hey day. Lots of amazing old workers cottages, relics etc. So very pretty! Bloody collddd though.
The next morning, we awake to find a FLAT TYRE. And can I just mention that this was Easter Sunday, in a very very country town haha. We're like, fuck. Cause dads car only had one of those useless space saving tyres, not a proper spare, and you can only drive around in them for so long. But some kid, stroke of luck, drove in and offered to help us. He grew up in the town and knew the number of the guy who was on call for this kind of thing, how lucky was that! Couldn't get a hold of him at first though, and my dads like 'Oh take Brodies number and give us a call if you get a hold of him first!' Oh yeah, thanks Dad. Let me give out my number to some strange guy, nice. he was all, wow brodie's a cool first name, makes mine sound boring (his was Ash, how is that boring? POKEMON). I was like, err yeah sure. What the hell do you say to that. Anyway. We did get a hold of the guy eventually and he fixeddd it.
After Lithgow we drove to a tiny town called Glen Davis, right in the middle of nowhere. It was like a 1hr long dirt road to get there, crazy. It's an old mining town, that had like, 2000 people in it's hey day but now has like...20 hahaha. it's so bizarre. I'm like, WHY DO PEOPLE LIVE HERE. There are no shops, no pub, no servo, NOTHING. It's like, a few streets of houses, all really old and run down, and that's like, it. It's very weird.
We went for a drive further out to where the oil shale something something used to be, I don't understand mining but anyway. it's like, a literal ghost town. You're not meant to walk down there but we did anyway. Funny how these places just...get deserted.
After Glen Davis we drove up to Mudgee which is so beautiful! I never knew! It's actually a big wine country kind of place, lots of vineyards. The town is so cute, so many lovely pubs and houses, and cafes etc. We had dinner at one of the locally famous pubs and stayed in this amazinggg resort place, you had a view of acres of vineyard, so pretty at sunset!
After Mudgee we drove out to Hill End via Sofala because dad used to own a piece of property out that way. WOW, Sofala is RANDOM. It's so strange how some of these towns just become so touristy, I'm like...how do people even know this place! It was seriously in the middle of nowhere, and tiny! I should have taken a picture. Very cute, I'd love to go back for lunch one day. it was mostly like, 1 very narrow street where it was mostly lined with cafes in the old buildings, and there was a few like, residential streets up the road a bit. Very cute, some verrry old houses there!
Hill End was amazing though. Another old mining town now reduced to I think 200 people? We actually arrived there just in time for their ANZAC march, perfect timing! But the town is just amazing. I forgot that it was autumn, so all these places had amazing colours everywhere, but driving into Hill End was beautiful!
Not much to see there, a pub, general store, cafe etc. But lots of nice old buildings etc. It's actually a bit of a artist destination, a lot of residencies are given out.
From Hill End we drove to Bathurst, where we visited dads old boarding school hahaha. My dad thinks he was such a cool kid, all the stories he tells. I wonder if they're true.
Ahhhh and then back home. Once again, driving up the blue mountains it suddenly got really foggy again haha. And we hit major traffic halfway up so when we got to the top, we stopped and had dinner at some Italian joint. And driving home was terrifying because it was so dark and foggy and DOWNHILL. So glad I wasn't driving!
Anyway, so it was a pretty great trip, so nice to get out of the city. The Australian countryside can be pretty...mundane sometimes, and stunning other times, I love it. I can't wait to go back. I love just driving around, its relaxing. And I got heaps of photos for uni, but I won't share them all on here cause...it's boring. And they're all blurry cause I'm a weirdo and like that.
Bit over the dirt roads though haha. We drove on a lot :/
The kind of photos I'm working on for uni. Abstracted landscapes maybe?
Driving up to a lookout on the way to Lithgow.
Every so often you'd just get patches on red dirt like this, so random! Such a vibrant colour. Where I used to live in QLD actually had dirt this colour everywhere. Volcanic I think?
Top of the lookout. Would have been nice if the fog didn't make it impossible to see anything. And hey, lack of fences, that's nice.
We actually drove around the bottom later on and wow, it was a big drop down.
Fog creeping into Lithgow. Looked pink because of the sunset!
Ahahahaha I saw this as we were driving and I was like OMFG IT'S A TORNADO. And my dad just laughed at me. ok so it was steam from the power plant, WHATEVS.
Relics of a massive steelworks in Lithgow
On the way to Glen Davis
Old, unused shop in Glen Davis
The old mine town part of Glen Davis, where we walked through.
Road to...Hill End I think.
Such dense bush!
Driving into Hill End
Lookout from Hill End
Old road to bathurst, friggin scary not being able to see around the corners.
Some random camping place by the side of the road, middle of nowhere! So perfect though, the water was actually really bright green, so pretty.
Old deralict house in Sofala
Road home
And that's it!
I really should have taken more photos, touristy ones, but I'm a lazy photographer. Hope it wasn't too boring anyway, if anyone was interested in what some of the country here looks like...? haha. I really should have taken more photos :/
Now, I am super behind in school work, and have done nothing all holidays. And I haven't updated my blog in forever. Blah :/
