Your dad just wants you to take safety precautions, what's so hard about that? It doesnt mean he thinks you're an idiot, he wants you to be safe. I was in the same situation you're in now, and, well...I know what your opinion of me is, but you might be able to benefit from what I say. I must have SOME idea of what the hell I'm talking about, since I just went and visited the kid for 4 days.
I know what it feels like to feel like you love someone you've never met. But no matter how much you trust someone, it's best to take every safety precaution you can. If they're worth your time, they'll understand. If I were you, I would go with your dad to meet him and have you stay with you guys the first time you see each other. Once he sees that Sam's a good kid, it'll put him at ease and he'll probably be more leniant about letting you see each other. It might be annoying, but he lives in the same state at least, so how hard can seeing him be?
It's like you get ANGRY that people care about your safety and well-being. And that attitude wont get you far.
