I dont know if anyone is interested in reading about me giving birth, but if your not, skip this post ;)
April 25 I had a 7am appointment to be induced. About 8:30 they had me all hooked up to the machines and started giving me pitocin. I started having some pretty strong contractions, and at about 2pm I finally asked for my epidural. Other than that initial sting of the needle going in, and the added pain of having a contraction in the middle of it, it didnt hurt to bad. Within a half hour, the epidural kicked in, but wasn't covering the pain, so they gave me an additional dose in the epidural. That covered the pain. Later that evening, the baby's heart rate was declining in between contractions, which was not a good thing, it meant that he was getting stressed. The nurses called my Dr in, he said I was dilated to 5 finally, and that they'd give it another hour. Typically, once your dilated to 5 things move faster. An hour later, I was still dilated to 5 and baby was still having problems, so he decided to do the c-section. About 10pm they took me back to the operating room and pumped more drugs into my epidural so I wouldn't feel anything. My mom got to go back with me, and she ended up facinated with the surgery and took lots of pictures of them pulling him out. The reason his heart rate was going funny was because his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck 4 times. He was also not fitting through my pelvis, his head had a huge dent on it where he had tried to fit. He came out and was handed to the NICU people who cleaned him up and checked him, but he was fine, so they handed him to my mom and she brought him to me. I wasn't able to hold him at that point, but I got to kiss him and talk to him. He is the most beautiful baby!!!! When I finally got a room and was released from recovery, I got to hold him. We were in the hospital 3 days, mostly for me to recover. It's been almost 2 weeks now, I'm still recovering, but it's getting better. The dr took out the staples before i left the hospital and then the steri-strips came off last week. The pain level is tolerable, I've been only taking one or two pain pills a day.
I have been breastfeeding him the last couple weeks. Unfortunatly it seems to not be working, and I have to keep supplementing with formula. That gives my little guy a nasty tummy ache, so I've decided to just switch to formula, but now my boobs hurt!! Overall, he is a very healthy baby, there was almost no signs of jaundice. He is also quite strong, was starting to lift his head at less than a week old. He was born with a head full of hair, it looked dark at first, but now is almost the same color as his eyebrows and eyelashes - red! His eyes will change colors, but look to be dark blueish right now.
Here is one of the pictures we got taken at the hospital. As soon as I find the cord for our camera, I'll add more pics.
