And I'm glad they didn't let their misunderstanding get between them... though I am a little confused. Who was the owl? One of Shen's patients?

I believe the owl was a potential secretary that Shen had been interviewing at home? Someone let me know if I'm wrong on that one.

i get that ther was a misunderstanding but what was the misunderstanding? who was the owl crowin in on his home-nest? does george figure it out on his own or does shan explain?

The misunderstanding was on George's part, he thought that the owl Shen was with was, like a boy/girl friend on the side (or something to this affect.)
The owl is a potential secretary (as stated by Parseltongue above)
It's not said who explains nor does it show the explaining. It is Wilkins who explains it to George.
