September 11th....... 8 years later
I dont really ever know what to write in this thing any more. I just dont find things to be that interesting I suppose. However since it is almost 6am on 9.11.09 I figure I could reflect on what I remember from 8 years ago. It isn't much really, I was just a freshman at Sun Valley High School in my 1st period science class with Ms. Keller when I hear the news. They made an announcement that 2 planes had hit the Twin Towers, at first I didnt think much of it because I had heard about people having accidents with their one man planes and running into buildings a couple times the previous year. However, during my 2nd period keyboarding class we just sat there watching all the different footage as everything was unfolding right there in NYC. The first building had pretty much collapsed upon impact but we all watched as the second tower eventually came crashing down. It was unreal seeing bodies jumping out of the windows to their own untimely demises, almost like a movie. They even showed footage of firefighters in the buildings with the slamming sounds happening every few seconds that we learned was bodies crashing to the ground. I want to say that we may have gotten out of school early that day but after hearing all the talk from everyone there was an ever present fear of impending doom because we all just knew that somehow Indian Trail was going to be affected some how because Charlotte was the 2nd largest banking city in the nation, so my family and pretty much everyone I knew went to random spontanteous church services all around the area. Afterward I dont remember exactly what happened outside of how this event began to set the course for the rest of the year even up to the present as politicians even try to use it to their advantage. It's kind of messed up what some people have turned it into but it was still one of the most important events of my teenage life. Some people remember when Kennedy or MLK was assassinated or where they were when they heard that John Lennon or Elvis Pressley had died, well I guess my generation got stuck with a date 9/11/01 that will forever be set in infamy.
