I have two schools i want to talk about. :)
#1 National Summer Singing Summer School - Napier, New Zealand.
I went in January 2005. It only runs every second year. It was interesting, as there mant students of different levels. Probably about 45 students all told. Classes were excellent. Started everyday at 8.30 with a group warm-up for 15 minutes. Every time a different teacher or coach took us. After that was a group samba class (we performed it in the end of week concert). Then off to classes until 12. Classes were four people to a 2 hour class, with half an hour one on one time with the coach/teacher. I thought this was excellent, as you could get masses out of just watching what the others had to do. Lunch, then a lunchtime lecture each day on different topics: how to treat your coach, vocal health, repetoire, open forums. Really informative stuff. Then classes started again, and continued until 6pm. While this normal classes were going on, ensemble rehearsals were on as well. I was in the three ladies ensemble...we did it charlies angels style..booya! The concert at the end was fabulous, with everything staged. At the school, you could bring any repetoire. Mainly everyone brought art song and arias. There were two strands: classical and musical theatre. There were also alexander technique classes. I thought it was excellent. I really good experience...socially and technically.
How much did it cost? This is Australian dollars. $700 for the course, and $330 for the accomodation.
How long was it? 12 days.
What was the average age? 18-35
www.singingschool.org.nz is the website.

#2 Ronald Dowd National Summer School for Singers - Sydney, Australia
This was held January 2006 and runs every year. This was my favourite out of the two, because it was way more personal. There were only 7 people in the course, including myself. As is implied, it's all about opera. You had to bring 5 songs: Orientation aria, Mozart aria, 19th century aria of verdi/donizetti/bellini/rossini or something to the style, a french aria, and a 20th century aria. The first day, Sunday, is orientation and as introduction you sing in front of everyone else. Everyday after that had a theme: Mozart, 19th century etc. In the mornings, we would go through our arias masterclass style. The teachers there were Victor Morris (coach), Christa Leahmann (colatura), and Geoffrey (I can't remember his last name, sorry *______* ). You would have one on one's with them. Ensembles were staged, with costume. All of the singers became friends quickly. Everyone was technically quite high. The pace of everything was very fast, but I like that. Classes started at 9am and finished 9pm, with lunch and dinner breaks of course. Victor made a point of making sure no one had the same piece, because he didn't want us to compete against each other. I got a mass out of it, mainly on relating my face to the emotion of the piece. It was a FANTASTIC school, which I will be attending again next year. If you go, be prepared work hard. And go with all your music memorised...Victor's known for yelling at people who don't know it.
Here's some details on it.
