Robbie Williams tried to hit it big in the States five or six years ago. I remember one or two of his videos getting airplay on TRL back when Carson Daly still hosted and when the music videos on the countdown were actually played in their entirety, instead of being shown in 45 second clips as they are now. This was when TRL was big, back when it was "the show" to watch. Do you remember that at all? Anyway, back then I found the song(s) being played unremarkable. I don't know if I'd still think the same. In any case, I was watching the uninterrupted Live 8 sets last weekend and saw Robbie Williams' set in London. It was pretty amazing. He had Hyde Park in his pocket. After watching him perform, I totally understood why he's a superstar overseas. He's got great stage presence and unbelievable charisma; he reminded me of Jude Law in that regard (his charm). Everyone was singing along to "Angels". It was a spectacular performance.

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old
Cause I've been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I’m lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel that love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life wont break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead

When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones
And when love is dead
I'm loving angels instead

And through it all she offers me protection
A lot of love and affection
Whether I'm right or wrong
And down the waterfall
Wherever it may take me
I know that life wont break me
When I come to call she won't forsake me
I'm loving angels instead
