the walking wounded

I don't know if you've noticed this, but as soon as I get one wound on my hand, others flock to it like moths to a flame. To wit: two weeks ago I burned my right ring finger knuckle while cooking. Then I burned my right middle finger, also while cooking. Last weekend, I peeled a piece of skin off of my left thumb, while peeling squash with a carrot peeler. And Sunday night I slammed a small paring knife into the top of my thumb while cutting a hunk of parmesean cheese. This last one bled like a bleeding thing. Bad. And, do you want to know what I finally had to staunch it with, because I had neither a bandaid nor gauze? I will tell you because you are friends, and because you will not judge me. A pantiliner. I figured it's set up for blood absorption, so what's the difference? The difference is that, my friends, you cannot go out of the house with a pantiliner wrapped around your thumb. Yesterday they gave me a bandaid at work, and it seems to have stopped oozing now, 36 hours after the injury. Doesn't look pretty though. I wonder how I will f. up my hands next?

And, coincidentally (or maybe not), I have long nails for the first time since high school at the moment. I'm surprised to see how strong they are. I guess I'm feeding myself well, despite all the cooking-related injuries.
