just a quick note for the first time in a while to say, tonight was pretty incredible. bill gordon is a teacher who, if you go to school at URI, you should absolutely try to have a class with before you graduate. i've never had a teacher at this school who i really thought i might try to keep in touch with after graduating. all through the second half of class tonight, he told us about his father, who, through an accident as a teenager, has been blind since the age of 13; how he became a minister because there wasn't anything else a blind man could do as a career move back in the 50's and 60's. he told us about how he eventually was in a wheelchair, and how hard it was to be a kid in those days with a dad in that position, and how he stood up for his father and still does now. i literally had tears in my eyes through the entire second half of the class. the guy is truly one of the best professors at URI. i'm going to go work on a paper, now, but i'm going to leave you all with the last thing he said in class tonight:
"if you learn nothing else tonight, remember this: strive to be a good person. live the lost values. don't try to be invisible. ...goodnight."
