Suprises

Amy rolled up the sleeves of her shirt and sighed, wondering how the day would pan out. She hoped it wouldn't be too bad, but she had a hunch that it would be. Charlie had called in sick (again) , so Amy had to work when she wasn't supposed to. She mentally scolded her colleague as she made sure everything was locked up, moving silently through the house and checking doors and windows.

When she was satisfied Amy grabbed her bag and opened the front door, only to be confronted with a large cardboard arrow fixed on the screen door, pointing down. Confused, she followed its length and noticed a small package on her door mat.

She carefully manouvered herself so that the door didn't bump the package (in case it was breakable), and picked up the object. The small box fitted neatly in her hand and was wrapped in good quality striped paper, complete with black ribbon tied around it all and fastened in a simple bow.

Amy was perplexed by the whole situation, and studied the present carefully for any indication of who it was from. She looked it over completely, but found nothing at all. She slid off the ribbon and carefully unwrapped it, ensuring the paper didn't rip.

The small box that would usually hold jewellery had no markings on it. It was just a plain, dark green box-as far as she could tell.

She slowly opened the box and looked at its contents. She had a confused smile on her face until she saw the picture of a parrot on the inside of the box's lid. When she saw that, her smile broadened and she laughed to herself.

She placed the ribbon in the box, folded the paper up neatly and placed them in her bag carefully. Leaving the arrow where it was, she locked the doors and walked over to her car. Today seemed to be looking up after all.
