Hey all.
So, to recap the last four or five days, Budapest was quite fantastic. I stayed in a wonderful old hostel with grotesques on the ceiling and crumbling walls in the stairwell. I love places like that. It was almost certainly haunted, but I did not seem to have any problems. My last day, I went to the national museum (I forget the name at this very moment) and saw yet more art.
Afterwards, I was feeling a little bit tired and worn out, so I went to one of the baths there in the city. HOLY COW. I have never seen anything like this ever before. It was a palace, basically, filled with swimming pools, hot springs, showers, places to get massages. . . Budapest is rich in natural hot springs, and so there are a whole bunch of places like this. People have been coming here for ages in order to breathe in the minerals and heat. Needless to say, it was quite delightful. Words do not describe it, so I will at some point put up my photos for you all.
And then I came to Vienna again, as I said I would. Yesterday I went to the Leichtenstein Palace and saw their huge collection of art, including tons of Rubens. It did not take me too long, thankfully, so I headed over to the Schönbrunn Palace (where the Hapsburghs spent their summers) and I could not help taking a million pictures of the grounds. It was mile after mile of perfectly manacured trees, bushes and flowers, with fountains and fake Roman ruins hidden amongst them. There was also a cafe, a zoo, and of course horse and buggies driving about.
Then I headed home, and hung out with the folks staying at the 'Believe it or not' hostel. It's true. I hardly believe it. (rolls eyes)
Today I got up early and made it to the church in time to hear the Vienna Boys Choir. I actually got one of the best seats in the house, in my opinion. For only 8 Euros, I got to sit with a slight view of the boys, plus there was a screen that showed the mass and the choir. If you paid 40 euros, you sat in a place where you could see the mass, but you did not get a view of the choir at all, as they were high up in the balcony behind the pews.
Today my plan is to finish getting my photos burned (finally!) and then head over to the Albertina Museum to see, yes, more art.
Then if I can still stand up, I am going to try to catch an opera.
And tomorrow, I am on to Berlin for six days.
I am happy to say that by the time my EuroRail pass runs out in two days, I will have used every single trip on it except for one. GO ME!! And maybe I will take a day trip in Berlin just for the sake of getting every single trip I can out of it.
If Alice or Russ were here right now, I would ask them if I can have some coffee. Can I have some coffee?? I woke up at 6:45 and took a freezing cold shower. PLEASE?? It is supposed to be really good in Vienna. Hmph.
Well, I had best be off with me. Maybe I will try to make due with tea.
Love y'äll.
