Real Update

Okay, enough of this one-paragraph update business. I'm going to use the next half an hour to write a real update. So here goes...

I've got three weeks left of the semester and can't wait for it to be over. I'm going to enjoy not having papers to write or required readings to "skim" for four weeks (haha). I can't believe that I'm almost done with one semester of graduate school. A year ago, I didn't think I'd even be here and now I'm almost a quarter of the way through this thing! Wow! I am so grateful for this experience!

Vegas, as I mentioned earlier, was fabulous. Meeting up with some old friends from UH Hilo was awesome, especially since one of them does not call Hilo "home", and I will not be seeing this friend during Winter break. A major highlight of this experience though was hanging out with my new friends from my graduate cohort. It made me realize what a close group we are. We truly take care of each other. Hanging out on the strip was also great, now that I'm of age (the last time I was there was when I was 17--not fun!).

Thanksgiving this year was different, because it was the first I spent away from my family. Thank you again to lj_rivkah_mouse and her family for taking me in and providing a cozy home and family to be with. I did call my family on Thanksgiving, and it was fun to have the phone passed around the house so I could talk to everyone. It's nice to know my family is looking forward to seeing me again. My mom and I are even planning to see "Memoirs of a Geisha" together.

The other day, I realized that Colorado is more and more becoming "home" to me. At first, I was extremely resistant to the idea of Colorado becoming home to me. Then, it occurred to me that when I go "home" to Hawai'i in a few weeks, I'll just be visiting. We'll see how this plays out.

Okay, my half an hour is just about up now. I've got a few papers to write before Monday, so off to do it (after getting lunch). Laters!
