This is my first ever journal entry, wheeee!
Okay enough of that.
Hope everyone is fine and well. I decided to make an LJ because there's a lot of stuff I like to rant/squee about and Facebook doesn't really cut it.
It's not just rants about annoying stuff, but all sorts of cool things, and I guess you're wondering "Whaaat, tell ussssss!" OKAY!
Well I'm really into Make Up, I want to become a make up artist, and although I've practiced and have gotten quite good at it, I've never been to College (different story!) however I'm not just sitting idly by while my dream passes me, although I have done that before, due to family issues and stuff, which is another story, anyway recently some opportunities have come up out of the blue, just from sending one email to enquire about something (it's funny how things work out!)
I have a friend who works in the film industry as a director and producer (no not Hollywood movies, more along the lines of smaller, indie projects) anyway he sometimes works at a local studio where I live, and posted on his FB status that they were looking for a make up artist for a photo shoot. I asked him about it, he gave me their email, etc...
I got a phone call from them and after a short discussion, it was discovered I needed to work alone, and use my own stuff. Now while I say I'm good, I'm not an expert, and so didn't feel comfortable working on my own, also the stuff I needed to bring I didn't have, I need to build up on my foundation collection (different skin tones) and to take into consideration that some people would need mineral make up incase they're allergic to anything else. So I was disheartened....until she said "Well if I clear it with the studio manager and the replacment make up artist, would you like to come along anyway and see what it's like to work alongside her?" Well of course I said yes! It was unpaid but I didn't care, it was experience I wanted.
It went on for 2 days and I was almost sad to leave, because I had a great time, it was a relaxed atmosphere, and you got free lunch, haha (I was told not many studios do that for you) I didn't help with make up, just observed, but she let me do the hair a little bit. We really got on and she (the make up artist) was lovely and seemed to quickly become my mentor (after just 2 days?! Haha) well anyway, when I showed her some pictures from my online portfolio (I'll get to that) she seemed quite impressed, and said it was something I definitely needed to get into. So before it came to an end she gave me details to contact Front Agency, for make up artists looking for work. So I sent them an email, describing how I'm not a professional but have studied it by myself for over 10 years since I was in my early teens, and sent a collage of the looks I've done myself and my friends.
About 2 weeks passed and I thought "Ah well, back to the drawing board I guess" which was odd because Mandy (the make up artist) knows them and apparently told them about me (I wonder what she said?)
Buuuuut....the other day I did get a response! A woman called Sarah, who said she was the agent for my area (as they're based in London, I don't live in London, but they cover most places I think) she said she was interested but asked a few questions, like would I be interested in working at a make up counter (yes, I don't mind selling products as well as doing make overs) is a temp contracts okay (sure, any experience is great for me!) and availability, well other than going to my friends wedding soon, and doing cosplay charity work (yet another story!) I'm free as a bird!
So we're arranging a meeting at Starbucks on the 13th (this Tuesday)! She asked me to wear something that would be good enough to wear at a make up counter, eep, erm, I have some casual suits, like a pinstripe pencil skirt and top, I hope that's okay. She also asked to bring a C.V and my photo, which I already sent in the email so meh, I dunno, I wonder why photo?
Anyway so that's what's happening right now, so wish me luck!
I forgot to add a picture of the looks I've done so far, this is what I sent to Front Agency in the first email: Sorry it's a bit big but editing it seems to lose the quality a bit.

Some are better than others, and there's a couple more I've finished that I'm really proud of, getting better!
Btw, the reason there's a black patch in the middle was because this is an edited version of a profile picture I made for my make up page on Facebook called Gem'n'Eyes, it's only got about 87 likes at the moment, but I'm happy! It has things like tutorials and my portfolio, and if you live locally I can do your make up for you for an occasion or just to pamper yourself =)
