Celebrate the Boys Love! Part 1
This is the second meaningless posting of mine. Bored already? :yay:
First of all, I have to thank LJ-ers from moviebuffs community for their recommendations. I was quite shocked actually. I asked them to recommend any gay/lesbian theme films, and guess what? 15 responses come in 3 hours! Yup, it’s 5 responses/hour in average, and each of them recommend -in average- 3 films. Wow.
Are there so many gay/lesbian films out there?
And you must excuse me for writing bilingual here or in my next post. Writing in English is tiring. Rumangsamu nulis Inggris terus ki ora kesel po?
Hey, that’s trilingual!

The Birdcage
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=the+birdcage Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, Gene Hackman, Hank Azaria, and Callista Flockhart. Don’t these names make you wonder what kind of gay plot they make?
A young man, raised by homosexual couple, is about to marry a daughter of a strict-Catholic (and vice president of the Committee for Moral Order) US Senator (a Republican, of course). He can’t reveal his unusual family’s true nature, so he ask one of his dad (yes, the ‘woman’ one :p) to be his uncle. Luckily, his real mother is willing to come. That should be fine; a father, a mother and a (girly) uncle. But nothing comes too easy for this unique family.
Ok. Forget the plot. The actors are more promising. I have to fall for Albert Goldman (Nathan Lane) for he’s trying hard to look macho. Robin Williams? Well, he never fails in comedy.
Rate? 6.9/10.

Velvet Goldmine
www.imdb.com/title/tt0120879/ It’s one of my most favorite films. It has good actors, nice music and storyline. Oh, and a memorable kissing scene ^^
Arthur Stuart (Christian Bale), a reporter, was sent to investigate the famous glam-rock star Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) who went ‘disappear’ after his fake shooting incident. The film went through his interviews with Slade’s manager, Jerry Devine (Eddie Izzard), his ex wife Mandy (Toni Collette) and his ex duet mate and bedmate, Curt Wild (Ewan McGregor).
These interviews also bring him back to the time when he was younger; when he was a crazy fan of Brian Slade, when he was insecure with his sexual orientation. No, this film is not about Arthur, though he has significant portion in it. It’s about Brian Slade, his career, love and on top of everything, his ego. A Gary Stu character? Maybe. But still, he’s a lovable one. ^^
The best scene is -of course- the kissing scene. Curt said “The world is changed cause you’re made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history,” (yes, that’s a quote from Oscar Wilde’s poem) then they kissed. And flashlights. And headlines on newspaper.
Yes, it's their first kiss... and it's in press conference. how yummy.

In that era, gay kissing wasn't a shocking scene. ("Today, there'd be fighting in the streets. But in 1972, it was more like dancing. ") Bisexuality was a common phenomenon. ("Yeah, I like boys and girls, they're all great! There's really no difference is there? Mr. BBC.")
do you wanna live in that world? :D
Rate? 8/10. Maybe more :D
I do love this film. but I really need to sleep... so, that's all for now. Go rent or buy the DVD. you'll like this film... at least, you'll like the gorgeous actors.
did I mention that Ewan McGregor was totally naked?
