Harvey/Mike, parent trap anonymous October 2 2011, 22:53:49 UTC
I had this stuck in my head for a while. I would really love to see Harvey and Mike in the setting of Parent Trap. Don't care about whether the two kids are adopted or by mpreg. Although I would love mpreg. Maybe Harvey is a hotshot lawyer still and Mike owns or helps out at shelters. Mike doesn't have to be financially equal to Harvey.

omggg, this could be so epic

Harvey would so tell his kid a bunch of stories about their other parent, just to distract the little runt from figuring out the truth. so when the two kids finally meet and start talking, the poor kid's like, "...I thought he was a spy? Who joined the circus? And runs a farm in Montana? And plays the ukulele?" while the other kid is just like, "*facepalm*, no dude, he's a dork, he runs the PTA."

and Donna would so keep tabs on Mike and the other twin. she would like, randomly pop into their lives every so often, just to make sure Mike's not doing anything too horrible, like beauty pageants or Mommy and Me Yoga. And every time she stops by, she and Mike get rip roaring drunk and talk shit about Harvey, and Mike ends up asking a bunch of pathetic questions like "...is he seeing anyone? No, don't tell me. I mean - I want to know - no I don't. I - just text me yes or no, okay, don't say it out loud - DON'T SAY IT OUT LOUD."

and they're both obviously really stupid, because Harvey doesn't even talk about ( ... )

OP approves of prompt hijacking. It makes prompt so much more awesome. Now for someone to write it! :)

"*facepalm*, no dude, he's a dork, he runs the PTA."

This is what I TOTALLY think Mike's kid would sound like

So. Here goes. Working from the 1998 film, so Harvey = Elizabeth and Mike = Nick. Ray = Martin and Donna = Chessy. Elinor = Annie and Claire = Hallie. They're 16, so they're juniors, right? I'm English, so forgive any mistakes! I'm working on what Wikipedia and Yahoo Answers tells me. I'm going to leave it ambiguous as to whether it's adoption or surrogate or mpreg because I CAN'T DECIDE.

In my headcanon, Mike is a total comic book geek, and therefore when he left Pearson Hardman after the divorce, he used the money he had saved to start his own comic book and games store. Also, it is entirely possible that this story may contain slight Jenny or Rachel bashing, depending on who I choose to use as the Meredith character or if I use an OC. Ugh. Can you tell this is my first?

Claire

Claire had lived with her dad in Chelsea for as long as she could remember, but there were a few photos of her in a place she didn't remember. He told her that was where he had lived with her other dad before they had split up. She called this unknown man 'daddy' in her head, it made it easier to explain to people, and easier to think about.

She spent a lot of time thinking about him. She wondered what he was like, if he remembered that he had a daughter. Did he think about her? All she had of him was half of an old photo that she'd found in a briefcase in her dad's room. He looked more like a daddy than a dad, a little older, well dressed ( ... )

I have to confess that I don't really like the Parent Trap movie (or any of its kind) because as a German, the original novel has been deeply ingrained in me since my childhood. But I love the story, and this prompt, and I absolutely LOVE the fact that you're filling this.
I hope there will be more soon, I'm already ready to smack Harvey and Mike for being so stupid and not seeing that they belong together, lol.
Great start!

Yay! Thank you for being my first comment, and thank you for the lovely compliment! And yeah, those boys definitely need a good slap upside the head.

I think one of my favourite things about the original Parent Trap concept is that it doesn't put any blame squarely on the shoulder of either parent, makes it clear that they both had good reasons for the split. I hope this fic follows a similar pattern, without going down the usual and easy route of Innocent!Mike and Mean!Harvey... This is a good beginning anon author and I'm expecting a lot from this fic. I'm just begging you not to play the parent split blame game

Nooo, don't worry! There is definitely blame on both sides going to be going on - you'll find out more about that later...;3
