I remember dreading New Years Eve in Bay City. There was always such anticipation for what we always seem to be told is supposed to be the greatest night of the year, full of huge amazing parties and happy people, but in Bay City they always disappointed. For the second year in a row Kalamazoo New Years Eve shown through as a sort of metaphorical beacon of hope for New Years Eve's everywhere. After Annie and I enjoyed a fine dinner at Bennigan's involving being asked if I would like my martini "on the rocks", a way I was not aware any martini anywhere had ever been served, and a quick stop at Meijer for a bathroom, during which I got to overhear the greeter tell exiting customers quite enthusiastically "see you next year, hah hah," followed by an aside to her coworker about how she had been "getting people all night with that one", we went and partied at Katie, Mandi, and Kristel's (yeah I know that was a run on sentence; apparently I have quite the penchant for writing them). We drank, we smoked, and we laughed at everything from the Narc looking guy to the virtual cultural divide that existed between the two rooms for the house. It wasn't some crazy bash, it wasn't some wild party, but it was exactly what New Years should really be.
