Short, concise description of the idea
In addition to "View the thread starting from this comment", a comment email should also have a link to "View the thread starting from this comment's parent", if the comment has a parent.

Full description of the idea
The only times I find the "View the thread starting from this comment" link useful, are for posts where there are a lot of comments and threads, because otherwise, I'd rather just see the whole post.

However, when there *are* a lot of comments and threads on a post, it can be very easy to forget what exactly was being said in the thread in question. So the very first thing I do after clicking on "View the thread starting from this comment" is almost always to click on "Parent", at least once. Often twice.

When you receive a comment in email, the email actually includes the text of the parent, yet if you choose to use the link to read the comment over on LiveJournal, you lose that text and have to click "Parent" to get it again. Doesn't that seem silly? Shouldn't the link you're following lead you to at least as much context as is in the email the link is in?

It'd save some effort if the email had a link to the parent to begin with. I'd probably never use "View the thread starting from this comment" again, I'd always go to the parent.

• This one should be really easy to implement. The only "difficulty" would be that the email code would have to handle the case where a comment has no parent slightly differently; some emails would have this "parent" link and some would not. Perhaps the latter could still have the "parent" link but it would just lead to the whole post.
