Short, concise description of the idea
Contests to generate designs for livejournal. These could be with or without monetary prizes. So, rather than just asking people for feedback on lj designs, the community could contribute ideas in the form of layouts/designs one on photoshop, CSS etc.
Full description of the idea
I was mainly thinking about two areas: the site schemes and schemes for layout styles
There are a lot of talented people on LJ - this would be a great way for them to contribute ideas that are innovative, creative and functional.
Winners could be decides by a poll and then a judges panel (which would include the people implementing the designs) like the Design To Inspire Contest and the Style Contest.
But there are a LOT of ways winners can be decided so *shrugs* I'd just likely to see more community involvement...

- Getting prizes as incentives (though these aren't really needed)
