Sounds like a very good idea to me.

Two things jump to mind reading this:
- This could be used to send out spam that looks like it comes from LiveJournal: grab someone's address, declare it an authorized address for email posting, make an email post using that address as the From: address, and comment. (That isn't possible currently, because comment notification emails only go to the posting user's email address if it was validated. That would no longer be the case with this scheme.)
- What should happen if you lose control of that alternate email address, or change it?

I don't have any use for this, but it sounds like a really great idea.

I have a refinement: rather than having the option to only switch the address the notifications are sent to, add the address (or switch if you want to). So your comments could still be archived at whatever address they usually go to, and you have them coming in as well to the address you sent in the entry from
