Though I agree that you should have the option to turn it off if you want.

Now I haven't seen this feature because I don't have JavaScript turned on in my browser (so yes, there is a way to turn it off!), but from what I gather you are supposed to be able to keep typing and just ignore what it puts up - there should be no need to stop typing and delete what it says because the suggestions will disappear once you've typed enough for your new tag to be unique. If it doesn't work that way in practice then there's probably a bug somewhere.

Now I understand that if you watch what you are typing it can get confusing to see words automatically popping up and for that reason you want it turned off. However, if it is actually inserting things into what you type then it's worth reporting that aspect of the problem as a bug. I realise you have contacted Support before, but if instead of asking "can you turn it off" you say "I am using X browser on Y operating system (and my CPU is a Z) and if I type 'flurble' without stopping then I end up with the letters 'fleeple' in the tag entry box" then there's a chance that someone will be able to find out what's wrong and fix it. (Unfortunately there's also a chance that no one will be able to replicate what you are seeing, and it will remain a mystery).

Also, what do you mean by keywords? Are you talking about entry tags, or something else?

It just needs to be voluntary, not imposed on everyone including those that go nuts if something else is trying to crosstype over their words.

No, autocomplete on that line is something LJ does, not my browser. There is something like it on my browser, but only for filling in forms and passwords -- where I use it, because if I type something into a field where all I can see is dots, I get terrified of making a typo in it. I have to see what I'm doing, and can't see it if I look at the keyboard.
On my browser it only appears on login screens. I start typing my username and it doesn't finish typing for me, it drops down a little drop-down that shows all the usernames I use on that site, so I have the option of selecting one and letting it finish typing, which will also make it fill in the password and keep me from high anxiety. No one else on the planet is allowed to use my laptop, so it's not a security problem -- but I can turn off that feature easily.
