Colour me thick, possibly, but isn't auto-complete to do with your browser and not LJ?

Also, what do you mean by keywords? Are you talking about entry tags, or something else?

In the most recent release, LiveJournal added an auto-complete-as-you-type function to the Tags field in the Update Journal form. It's very popular among those people who frequently typo their tags or can never remember whether it was "emo-post" or "emo posts".

Yeah, if it was doing this all along, I would've mentioned it long before this. Thanks for mentioning that.

It just needs to be voluntary, not imposed on everyone including those that go nuts if something else is trying to crosstype over their words.

I am talking about entry tags, the long narrow one-line box that appears under the entry and gets labeled "keywords."

No, autocomplete on that line is something LJ does, not my browser. There is something like it on my browser, but only for filling in forms and passwords -- where I use it, because if I type something into a field where all I can see is dots, I get terrified of making a typo in it. I have to see what I'm doing, and can't see it if I look at the keyboard.

On my browser it only appears on login screens. I start typing my username and it doesn't finish typing for me, it drops down a little drop-down that shows all the usernames I use on that site, so I have the option of selecting one and letting it finish typing, which will also make it fill in the password and keep me from high anxiety. No one else on the planet is allowed to use my laptop, so it's not a security problem -- but I can turn off that feature easily.

It saddens me that judging by the date of your entry this problem has existed for over a year now. Recently however it seems to have gotten much worse now that they've instituted the tag limit -- when attempting entries in communities with large tag counts, my browser will actually lock up for a good five minutes at least while the script runs and then inevitably hangs, prompting the good old "do you want to continue or terminate the script?"

Forcing this on people is one of LJ's stupider decisions

Oh yeah, I have gotten used to it and still put up with it because all my friends are here. It's still irritating. Yep. It should be optional, not something that's a default.
