Short, concise description of the idea
Some people don't realise that syndicated feeds are, well, syndicated. A warning on the comments page for syndicated journals, to indicate that the original poster may not read the LJ feed would be helpful.

It's not a particularly valuable feature to me, as the lack of moderation makes many of them a pit of trolls. But if folks are finding value in it, then I withdraw my comment.

in comic strip feeds, it's common to see a few comments about the day's comics from differ LJers :) a mini-community of sorts.

Or allowing the owner to add extra elements to the RSS to add things like control of comments, usericons, comment link=permalink, all kinds of cool stuff like that.

Now that would be truly wonderful. I read the blogs of a few non-LJ friends and it would save me an extra trip to their blog to comment. Call me lazy, but I often mind myself not commenting on them for just that reason.

Of course, most of them left LJ because they were sick of it, but that might be something they'd be willing to see back - especially if it was an option to have it "on" or not.

But while we're at it, I'd also like a mention in the warning that the post will be gone in two weeks anyways. And a similar warning when trying to add a syndicated post to memories.

This seems a fairly non-contentious suggestion, reading it through. However, I'd prefer a 'notification message' rather than a 'warning message' though, in terms of its tone?
I'd also hope it would be short, rather than a paragraph; not much more than a sentence. Many LiveJournal users legitimately comment on syndicated accounts to interact with other users (here) and know full well that the author may not read the LJ account. *That* interaction isn't something that one needs to be warned off of. ;-P

Was: "Comments to syndicated accounts may not be read by the author of a feed, as the feed is published through an external website" what you had in mind, or something very different?
