I approved this even though an interest search limited by last update is available through the Directory. My main reason is that it's not obvious from the "quick" interest search page that an advanced interest search is available elsewhere. Therefore, we still have the problem described above, although an easier solution would be to link to the Directory rather than adding options to the quick search.

It's also worth noting that the Directory search is not available to all account types, and that it offers options like "updated within last day" rather than the suggested date range.

There seems to be too many search areas on LJ, and none work that well, I think just one, decent search facility would be nice.

Agreed. It's one of the things that make LJ appear so complicated, especially to new users.

Indeed, the search has always been an issue, especially for a social site like LJ, it should enable peole to search out interestes, communities and people extremely well.
