I would like to have a version of the Edit Tags on Entry page (http://www.livejournal.com/edittags.bml?journal=exampleusername&itemid=entry#) that can function without requiring that JavaScript be enabled.
Full description of the idea
To save bandwidth and resources, and also to increase overall security, I frequently have JavaScript disabled in both my PC browser and my mobile phone's browser. Thus, when I go to add tags to entries via the Edit Tags on Entry page (http://www.livejournal.com/edittags.bml?journal=exampleusername&itemid=entry#), I am forced to enable JavaScript before the page will work properly. From the way it appears to be designed, it LOOKS like it could work without JavaScript if I simply add in the tag I want (much like on the Post an Entry or Edit Entry page in the tags field) in the text entry field, or in my mobile browser, the dropdown list of tags has checkboxes next to each of them that I can ticky. However, even if I attempt to add tags this way without JavaScript enabled, no changes to the entry's tags are saved.
Needless to say, this behavior is annoying and inconvenient to me, especially since I post many entries via my mobile phone, which scripting bogs down severely. Furthermore, requiring scripting can make either a mobile phone or a regular computer vulnerable to a potential security exploit, which I would rather avoid if at all possible.
Thus, I would like to see a version of the Edit Tags on Entry page that doesn't require JavaScript but will still save changes to the tags list, at least according to new tags added to (or even deleted from, if the existing tags can be pulled in a non-JS version) the text entry field. Better yet would be if the checkboxes functioned without JavaScript and would allow the user to ticky them to add (and/or possibly delete) tags in that manner.
An ordered list of benefits
- More convenience and security for users who are unable to or prefer not to use JavaScript while adding (and/or deleting) tags from individual entries
- Less bandwidth used and less content having to be loaded
- Better compatibility with mobile devices and older browsers that don't handle JavaScript well, if at all
- As always, the time and trouble to code and implement this
- Full functionality of tags management per entry may not be possible without JavaScript
- And possibly others I haven't thought of
