Random User Pics

Short, concise description of the idea
Basically like default other then userpic can be anything

Full description of the ideaRight now we have the ability to choose our icon we want to use or use a default and I think it would be cool to have a random option that randomly picks a userpic that has been upload by that user. User ( Read more... )

This revisits a suggestion that came up previously in 2007: http://community.livejournal.com/suggestions/667590.html... )

The overwhelming consensus was that one should be able to pick a random option, review the userpic, and then post the entry or comment, rather than being completely surprised once it posted, or having the item display a different random userpic each time (confusing and possibly inappropriate). This would require a user interface change for the Create Entry page, but would not require changes to entry display or comment display.

I think a lot of us already got a taste of what happens when it's not previewed, aka the "userpic swap" bug. XD (Of course, what made that even more random was that it pulled other people's userpics.)

But kidding aside, I agree with the objections to this, namely that it might pull a cracktacular icon for an entry about a loved one passing away. =/ And also, to me, this is a nice ponie that I'd personally never use (but wouldn't want to deny others), but I don't think it's a feature that LJ really needs at this time.

I'd never use it, but I don't object to others having the option :)

Agreed.

(However, I wouldn't necessarily favor putting much effort coding this as a priority...)

FYI: At this time, two Firefox addons offer this functionality - LJHook and LiveJournal AddOns. I use the latter and would support such a feature.

I support this suggestion. I think it would be a great feature to have.

I wouldn't use it, but if it's easy to program, I see no reason to oppose it.
