last night was another outing of ACUPUNCTURISTS GONE WILD. neekie, evilgirl, fancy mary, tx and i were causing a ruckus at the edgewater lounge.
i am so glad they made me go out.
the oberon is flowing (bells) summer is here.
i remember buying 'sol sun' in the large bottles when bells first started distributing. i'd buy it at jacks when ben worked there. i'd always make him nervous by asking lots of questions about weird liquor on the top shelves he couldn't reach. i remember his boss being like 'back off man, the guy can't reach that stuff.' and then i let it break that we were friends. everyone who worked there took alcohol very VERY seriously.
it's hard to imagine being back in those days.
all of my friends in houses within short walking distance from my own.
leaving billboard sized notes in my front window as a sure way to communicate because everyone eventually had to pass the big pink house.
my life at 720 washington street, while certainly the hardest years in many ways, was somewhat enchanted. my mom was always offering refuge to wayward folks. billy came to live with us when his parents found out he was gay. michele came to live with us when her parents found out that she had sex with her harvard boyfriend after getting in to princeton and they wouldn't help her pay for school. cherie came to live with us when she wanted to get clean. and i had a futon for years that shane didn't even know existed because it was burried under a heap of clothing as tall as we were.
billy is an events planner and floral designer in the bay area. michelle is a published genius of sorts, cherie is living in new orleans and doing architectural restoration and rugby. shane is on the verge of fashion stardom.
you couldn't pay me to go back, survive all that again.
i am sure glad i did.
i'm having a hung over gratitude moment.
