Appearance: Isn't She Cute? May has long black hair tied up in two tight odangos on either side of her head with three long thin braids coming from each. Her hair is mostly out of her face except for a tuff of bangs. Speaking of her face, May has a childish face and cheerful black eyes. Her childish round face helps distinguish her from the other girls in the series. For clothing, May wears a light orange Chinese-style top and puffy-ish pants. Overtop is an apron-dress of sorts and she has a lighter purple cloth tied across her chest from her shoulder. May keeps her travel belongings in here. However, she probably won't have this in this RP.
Personality: May is a bright, cheerful, and energetic little girl. Her personality brings a refreshing contrast to the rest of the cast since she is not as dark and depressing as other cast members, despite her past.
May is very easy-going and friendly. After all, she befriends Scar, a terrorist, and sticks by him even after learning what he's done. She's good at judging character and looking past outer things, making her quick to trust, but she is, at the same time, a bit naive and overly-trusting. Later in the series, not in the point I'm taking her from, Envy manipulates her trust to get her to go back to Central. May's friendliness helps her to get along well with "both sides" in the Ed VS Scar conflicts.
She is also a very caring girl. May heals Marcoch and is upset that she couldn't make him look better, even when Marcoch assures her he deserves the ugly face he got. She's got a bit of a bleeding heart, as seen when she adopts Xiao May as part of her family and when she insists on healing a gun wound to Scar's leg. May is very talented in Rantanjutsu, Xing's form of alchemy, possibly at the prodigy level that Ed and Al are with their Alchemy, but she's a lot more modest than Edward. She knows the limits of her craft and respects them while doing his best to help people with her powers (healing, repairing Youswell Mine).
Of course, like many FMA characters, May also has a respect for "Equivalent Exchange". She fixes Youswell mine and claims it's payment for the food and then she follows Yoki to repay him for feeding her. However, she's not as stuck on it as Ed.
Oh, Ed. You can't forget her Edward fantasies. May is a little daydreamer and is on a quest for her Prince Charming. She knows she's a princess and, though she is tougher than most Princesses, May dreams of marrying a handsome gentleman. Her romantic fantasies aren't PG-13 but they certainly seem like something straight out of a shoujo manga.

HISTORY
Point in Canon: I'm yanking May from a point before teaming up with Ed and Al, while she's with, and after Ed breaks her poor maiden's heart. She just headed North with Marcoh.
History: May is a manga-only character from the country of Xing, which is across a long and icky desert to the east of Amestrisis, where Ed and Al live. There, May is the 17th princess of Xing; as you can probably guess, the Emperor of Xing has many many heirs. He is now dying and seeks the secret of immortality so that he won't die. What does that mean for May and the other heirs? If they can bring the secret of immortally and gain his favor even a low and poor clan can possibly be put in line for the throne.
It's not said what May's exact social status is but Edward Elric fantasies show her in a relatively cheap house trying to convince her family that Ed's a good boyfriend. The fact she is all by herself as opposed to Ling, who has bodyguards, hints that she's at least not as well off as he is
On the note of her past, May has a pet panda, Xiao May, whom she rescued. She is small for a panda ( barely the size of a cat) and gets along with May because they share the burden of being abnormally little.
So May Chang and Ling Xao have crossed the border (illegally) to find the secret. And though they are enemies in the search, being from separate clans, they've got some things in common; they both end up yanked into the main plotline and they're originally found starving to death.
May shows up in the Youswell Mines. You might remember them if you're an FMA fan as the mines Edward buys at the beginning of the series. The little boy that was dissing Ed for being a state alchemist finds May and revives the poor girl and her per panda (Xiao May) with food. In return, May uses her "alchemy" to rescue his father from a fallen mine. While the townspeople are celebrating they mention Edward Elric and May instantly becomes a fangirl. She rushes off, catches a train, and begins her search for "Master Edward".
No one ever warned her of how small he is, though.
May wanders for the next few chapters. She is then saved by Yoki, the former owner of the Youswell mines and Scar's sidekick. In order to repay her debt May begins tagging along with Yoki and Scar. There comes an incident where the Elrics use Scar to lure out Homunculi and May comes to Scar's rescue near the end of the fight. However, in the process, May and Xiao May become separated. Alphonse picks up Xiao May and begins carrying him around while May desperately searches for her panda.
Scar and her become aware of the fact Alphonse has her panda and see him wandering around with Gluttony, who has decided to take Al to "Father" after accidentally eating Ed, Ling, and Envy. Scar and May go to the underground hide out where May is instantly made uncomfortable by "Father". She also has her Maiden's Heart broken when she sees Ed for the first time and learns he's short in both height and temper. She declares that he tricked her. A fight starts not long after Gluttony spits up the three people he swallowed and May becomes targeted for her "Little Girl Meat". While Father is able to disable Ed and Al's alchemy, May can still use her "Rantanjutsu", Xing's take on alchemy. But this doesn't save her from getting beat pretty badly and then rescued by Alphonse.
Alphonse brings May to a doctor named Knox who is able to secretly treat her, and Ling's now-one-armed bodyguard LanFan. The two girls don't get along because their clans are against each other but they swallow their pride when Knox asks. May also becomes very fond of Al when he tells her he's not like Ed but a gentleman with "clean-cut short blond hair" and such, turning May into an Alphonse Fangirl.
Shortly after being converted May leaves Knox and goes to meet up with Yoki, Marcoh (recently borrowed by Scar), and the terrorist himself. She and Marcoh head up North to a cabin where Scar hid his old research notes since they hope they will help Marcoh stop the disaster that the government is planning. This is the point I'm pulling May from.
ROLE
Title: Xing Co.'s 17th Heiress / Jr. High Student
History: May is the 17th daughter of the head of Xing Co., a large company that studies medicine and sciences. May is also one of the more poor Heirs, attending public school rater than a private academy, and took interest in medicine and sciences at a young age. Her life was fairly normal and she grew up happily.
But now her father is ill. He is desperate for a cure to his disease and the many children (and possible heirs to his company) are now searching for ways to suck up in his final days so he'll hand the company over to them. May is one such girl and is presently on a solo mission to find a way to earn her father's favor and inherit the company for her family so they don't starve to death.
