Morning again. I am awake and listening to house sounds and street sounds. It is glum outside: diffused light, muted colors, very still. I am looking out at Lisa's favorite house. She likes it when the sun shines on it, and so do I. It's cheerfully picturesque then. Now it is lonely...but still likable. Among my (many) favorite things about this city are its houses. Not to be outdone by the ever-lush foliage, they help compensate for dreary weather with brightly painted trims, pleasant peaks and angles, mosaic-ed staircases, and friendly doors. At the risk of sounding materialistic, I think lovely, interesting, homey houses are important. I would love, love, love to live in a pretty house with lots of windows and gables and wood floors--an inviting, inspiring space.
