Author's Note: As some of you know that I've been busy job hunting and........I AM FINALLY EMPLOYED! I will start working tomorrow. To celebrate, I quickly finish this long-waited chapter. Wish me luck! Hope you like this update! :D This chapter is all about the tumultuous working relationship between Ryo and Tatsuya.
Ryo ran out of his front door and to the parking lot where his car was. He could not believe he did not hear his alarm going off and woke up late. The young man muttered angrily under his breath as he was caught in the morning traffic jam. He had planned to come in slightly early to show Tackey-san and that evil writer how responsible and capable he could be. After their last conversation, he would be damned if that fairy boy used his lateness as an excuse to get him fired. He just HAD to get to the office before Ueda.
After severely honking at the car in front of him and changing lanes, Ryo miraculously arrived on the dot. He gave a sigh of relief and straightened his tie. As he stepped inside his office, he was greeted by the smell of rose scented air freshener and Tegoshi's dazzling face.
"Morning Nishikido-kun~" Tegoshi smiled brightly.
"Morning…" Ryo panted breathlessly and sat down on his chair. Tegoshi blinked and approached the tired man.
"Nishikido-kun~ have you eaten breakfast?" Tegoshi asked and handed him a packet of red bean bread. "Here! There's plenty more in the pantry. Just help yourself okay?"
Ryo kindly thanked his co-worker and quietly took a bite of the bread. He looked around the office, hoping to spot the bane of his life.
"Hey Tegoshi....Where is Tsuki-san?" Ryo asked casually.
"Ah!" Tegoshi poked his head up from his computer. "Usually writers don't come in the office like we do. They come every now and then when it's needed."
"Oh~ I see." Ryo replied with a small smile but underneath, he was burning with anger.
Damn you Ueda! You're making me paranoid.
Ryo turned on his computer and drummed his fingers against his desk, waiting for it to load. He suddenly received a text message from Tackey-san informing him to check his email. It seemed that it was going to be a busy day for him as Ryo scrolled through his inbox. He had received an email from Takizawa-san about Ueda's first draft. Ueda then sent back an email, informing them that he would be dropping by the office and submitting his draft later at noon. Ryo clicked on the Reply button and typed his first email to Ueda.

Good Morning,
I will make myself available at 12pm today.
Thank you for your hard work.
Sincerely,
Nishikido Ryo
"There!" Ryo mumbled and clicked the Send button. He leaned back and closed his eyes, silently praying that this day would run smoothly. He reminded himself that whatever happened between him and Ueda was the past. Ueda would try to pull some sort of a stunt but as long as he remained civil and mature, Ryo believed he could overcome anything.

Aiba Masaki was enjoying a cup of warm tea when he heard a knock on his door.
"Come in~" Aiba replied, turning his head towards the door and smiled. "Well~ Well~ Well~ what a nice surprise! What are you doing here, Ueda-kun?"
Tatsuya bowed shyly, closed the door and sat down on the chair beside Aiba’s hospital bed.
"Checking up on you of course! Here’s some fruits for you. How are you feeling, Aiba-san?" Tatsuya asked, eyes filled with concern as he placed the fruit basket on the bedside table.
"I'm feeling better, I guess." Aiba shrugged, "The pain comes and go. I’m getting tired of being stuck here. It’s so boring~!"
Tatsuya looked around Aiba’s room. It was cooling with white walls and plain beige curtains, the boring interior could easily frustrate anyone who was under strict quarantine. There was also a tinge smell of Antiseptic and disinfectant chemical. Tatsuya gave a hopeful smile and patted Aiba's shoulder.
"You'll be fine. Don't worry. I heard that Sakurai-san visited you yesterday." He said with reassurance. Aiba gave him a small smile and quickly changed their subject of conversation.
"And I heard that you have a new editor... “Aiba chuckled. Tatsuya eyes widened and turned towards him.
“How did you know?” The writer asked.
"A little birdie named Nino told me...” Aiba replied jokingly, “How is he so far? Is he better than me?"
No wonder…
Nino was Aiba’s close friend who also happened to be an editor of Sakurai Sho. Sakurai Sho, who was known as Sakura Ai, was another talented author in their company apart from him and Shige.
"Oh please~” Tatsuya rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, “He is far beneath you. I think a grade school kid's linguistic skill is better than his."
"Maybe you should give him a chance. You'll never know...” Aiba mused, “You'll never uncover diamonds if you don't polish them..."
"He is not a rough diamond. He is a ....” Tatsuya lost his words. Nothing could describe what he felt for the younger man.
Nishikido Ryo was nothing to him. Nishikido Ryo was an opportunist and he will make use of anyone to get what he wants. Tatsuya had to learn that the hardest way and spent years taking responsibility for his own mistake of trusting Ryo.
“Aiba-san, I could never thank you enough for believing in me. But it is highly impossible for me to work with this new editor." Tatsuya sighed, agony painted on his face.
"Why is it impossible?" The ill man cocked his head, “You are able to get along with everyone in the company.”
Tatsuya gulped and clenched his fists. He was torn as to whether or not tell Aiba about his past with Nishikido Ryo.
"I guess you could say we have a bad history...” Tatsuya murmured, “Which is why I want you to be my editor again."
"Ueda-kun..." Aiba replied, feeling rather surprised at Tatsuya’s request.
"Please Aiba-san... Be my editor again.” Tatsuya asked again,” I know it's a selfish of me but I need your help. Please come back to Love Scripts."
Tatsuya stood up and bowed deeply to Aiba. He knew that pleading to Aiba was futile. The man was recovering from a collapsed lung for God’s sake and it was utterly out of the question. But he had to try. He flat out refused to work with Nishikido Ryo. There was too many unspoken resentment in Tatsuya and for the first time in years, he dreaded going to work.
"Ueda-kun...” Aiba said gently, “I wish I can recover fast and help you. I know it seems far-fetched and I cannot promise anything ...but once I get better, I promise to be your editor again."
It was not exactly what Tatsuya wanted to hear but it was good enough for now. He wanted Aiba to prioritize his health and Tatsuya did not want to pressurize the sick man. As much as he hated the thought of working with Nishikido Ryo, Tatsuya had to tolerate him until Aiba recovered.
"I wish you a speedy recovery.” Tatsuya said sincerely and looked at his wristwatch, “I have to go now. Please rest and don't strain yourself. Goodbye Aiba-san."
Tatsuya felt a little bit disappointed as he got into his car and drove to the office. His mind replayed what happened the last time he saw Nishikido. Damn! Even mentioning his name made Tatsuya’s blood boil.
“Think Tatsuya! Think!” he mumbled to himself while thinking of all sorts of devious acts. He knew that he was not cunning enough to think of a grand master plan to get rid of Nishikido. But suddenly, a small light bulb lit up in his pretty head and he slowly smirked.
As Ueda Tatsuya stepped into the office of Love Script, he had made a new life mission. Since Tatsuya could not force Nishikido Ryo to leave, he will “subtly persuade” Nishikido instead.
~//~
It was almost 12 o’clock and editors were getting ready for their much needed break. But for some, work was more of a pressing matter than lunch. Nishikido Ryo was peacefully doing his administrative paperwork while he waited for his author at his table. He gave a sigh as he peered over at the little clock at the bottom right corner of his taskbar. He wondered why he did not see this coming. This thing called fate or karma or whatever it was called… Ryo could not help but feel like a higher power above was punishing him.
How could he end up crossing path with Ueda again? That man just irked him to end. In Ryo’s eyes, Ueda Tatsuya was weak and easy. It took a mere sweet words and gentle coaxing to get that man in bed with him. When Nino-kun told him that Ueda was in the meeting room across the hall, Ryo rolled his eyes as he sat aside his papers. It was time to fake a smile and civility. He knocked on the door and went in before there was an answer.
“Good afternoon Ueda-san.” Ryo greeted formally and sat down opposite to the brown haired man. “So…About the first draft…Can you brief to me about it?”
Ueda raised his brow and gave a disapproving look.
“Did you not check your email? I sent you the details of my new novel 30 minutes ago.” Tatsuya crossed his arms and leaned back, his voice cold as ice. Ryo bit his tongue from spitefully scolding his author for sending a last minute email prior to the meeting.
“I apologize.” Ryo gritted his teeth. “I was busy attending other paperwork.”
“I don’t like hearing excuses, Nishikido.” Tatsuya snapped, “Since you’re efficient at attending to mindless work, go make me a cup of coffee while I turn on my computer.”
Ryo gave a ‘tsk’ with annoyance and left the room angrily. Whereas back in the meeting room, Tatsuya smirked in minor victory as he pressed the ‘on’ button of his white laptop. Sending a last minute email may seem unintentional but it was the first step to ruining Ryo’s career.
Ryo rummaged the pantry trying to find the coffee powder but instead, he found a bottle of soy sauce and grinned like a Cheshire Cat.
“You want coffee, right?” Ryo snickered and grabbed a mug, pouring the grinded coffee beans and squirted a good amount of the black liquid before adding the hot water.
When Ryo came back, he placed the white floral mug in front of Ueda and took his seat. Tatsuya frowned when he caught a slight glimmer in Ryo’s eyes and stared at the mug.
“What’s this?” Tatsuya asked as he picked up the mug, looking at it with suspicion.
“Your coffee of course!” Ryo replied rudely, making it seemed like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Tatsuya mentally smirked when he was the corner of Ryo’s lips curl as he raised the mug to his mouth. He stopped momentarily before putting the mug back on the table.
“You drink it.” Tatsuya’s words were short and simple, yet filled with wickedness.
“Me?!” Ryo stuttered with wide eyes while pointing to himself in disbelief.
“Yes, you…” Tatsuya nodded, “Drink it. Or else I refuse to give you my draft which is in fact…due in 3 weeks.”
Ryo gulped at Tatsuya’s threat and took the mug. His face went pale when he smelled the mixture of soy sauce and coffee.
“It’s just coffee for God’s sake!” He said with false bravado. No way in Hell was he drinking this!
“Go ahead…Drink it to the last drop.” Tatsuya instructed, laying a delicate stress on the last word. Ryo’s hand shook as the rim of the mug touched his lip. The smell grew pungent and he felt bile rising up his throat. He felt himself cracking and finally he told himself that he could not do it. And in the good old Nishikido Ryo fashion, he used his best ammo to save himself.
His poisonous tongue.
“This is ridiculous! It’s just coffee! Whatever happened between us was years ago. It’s time to get over this.” He placed the mug down and stared directly at Tatsuya.
“What in the world are you talking about?” Tatsuya asked, raising a brow.
“Your unhealthy obsessed over me. Give me your stupid draft and just go!” Ryo replied snidely.
“And why would I be obsessed over you?” Tatsuya said after rolling his eyes, “Please don’t tell me it’s because you’re a poor little rich boy who is all alone in this world and very misunderstood. God knows I’ve heard that before. Or maybe it’s the fact that you only got your job at Playboy because you had a quickie with the HR Manager.”
Ryo was temporarily speechless. How the heck did Ueda know about that HR guy?! But that was not going to make Ryo back down and neither was Tatsuya. He stood up and slowly strolled his way towards Ryo, eyes darker than black.
“You can shoot all your venom at me but actually you’re a scared little boy with low self-esteem. And once everyone...Tackey-san..Nagase-san..Tegoshi..Shige... finds out what a toxic snake you are, you will be out of here before I can say “opportunistic bastard”. Tatsuya sneered.
“WOW! And here you are STILL denying your obsession!” Ryo said condescendingly, “Did you think of me when you wrote your entire tragic unrequited love novels? Or when you wrote that illustrative scene of Cain tearing Carina’s clothes and making love to her against the wall? It seems to me that someone was reminiscing a passionate night he doesn’t want to forget.”
“You conceited juvenile pig.” Tatsuya spat.
“And what about you?” Ryo stepped closer, invading Tatsuya’s personal space. “You murdered your own kid.”
Tatsuya felt a blow to his heart and instantly punched the younger man on his jaw. Ryo slightly stumbled, knocking over the mug and spilling the tainted coffee all over the white floor. Ryo growled and raised his fist. But before he could retaliate back, a loud voice echoed through the room.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!” Tackey-san yelled, standing at the door in shock. He never, in his life, witnessed violence in Love Scripts until now.
The sound of the senior’s voice made Tatsuya snapped back to reality and he felt utterly ashamed. He was never the type to lose his cool but when Ryo mentioned his child, he was filled with anger that he blacked out by rage. With one last glare, Tatsuya turned around.
“I apologise Tackey-san.” Tatsuya said and bowed deeply, “I already emailed you my drafts and summary. Please take a look. I’ll take my leave now.”
Tatsuya hurriedly made his way before Tackey-san could question him. He just needed to get away from Ryo fast before he killed that midget. As the lift doors closed, Tatsuya rubbed his throbbing fist and reminded himself that this fight was not over just yet.
It was only the beginning.
~//~
“What happened?! What did you do?” Tackey-san roared after he closed the door. “Explain yourself!”
Ryo shivered as the sound of Tackey-san’s voice echoed through the room. He gave a long sigh and looked down in defeat. First day at work and he was already in trouble.
“I am greatly sorry at what happened. I promise that it will never happen again.” Ryo bowed apologetically. “It’s just….there’s a hostility between Ueda…I mean Tsuki-san and me. We had a bad history. I think working with Tsuki-san is impossible.”
Tackey-san gave a long sigh and massaged his temple.
“Look Nishikido-kun… despite your past with Tsuki-san, you cannot let it affect your work. I can see that it can be difficult for you but you have to set it aside. Do you know that we have thousands of applicants every month who wants to be where you are now? But we picked you. Be it fate or whatever it is…you are here for a reason. As an Editor, it’s your job to look after your writer and work as a team.” Tackey-san said encouragingly and patted Ryo’s shoulder. “We all face difficulties in our lives. But that doesn’t mean we should give up easily, right?”
Ryo gave a small smile and nodded, even though his mind was still pondering over what his senior just said.
“I won’t…give up, Tackey-san.” Ryo replied, feeling slightly better.
“Good! Now clean up this mess and get back to work!” Tackey-san grinned. “You have a draft due in 3 weeks time! I expect it to be impeccable.”
“Yes, sir…” Ryo said sheepishly and quickly made his way to the pantry. He grabbed whatever wash cloth and packets of tissues he could find to wipe the spilled beverage. He did not want to admit it but a very very very small part of him felt…guilty. He should not have instigate any conflict with Ueda and made a promise to himself to focus on his work. Enough with childish pranks! It was time to get serious.
After cleaning the mess, Ryo went back to his desk and braced himself to read the email Ueda sent before their “meeting”. He took a deep breath and clicked onto the email icon, expecting the worst email he would ever receive. But to his surprise, Ueda’s mail was short and brief.

Subject: [IMPORTANT] First Draft Details
The draft of the first 5 chapters is attached to this mail. Please take a look.
Plot and details of the novel as listed below.
Summary: A complex romance between a courtesan and a warlord. Separated by war and eventually found each other in the end after many years.
Time Period: 12-13th Century, Japan
Genre: Historical, Romance, Tragedy
U.Tsuki.
Ryo stared at his computer screen and pondered over the idea of the plot. Truth be told, he felt like it was too…cliché. He was certain that similar plots had been done over and over again not only in novels but on television and movies.
“Historical…Romance…Tragedy…” Ryo scoffed after reading through the draft. “Same shit different story…”
He clicked on the reply button and decided to give his input as Ueda’s editor. Since this email was also sent to Tackey-san, Ryo wanted to show that he was making an effort to work co-operatively.

Dear Tsuki-san,
Thank you for your email.
I strongly believe that the plot can be better with a few minor corrections and we have to discuss the plot in further detail. I would like to suggest that we have another meeting today after 6pm. Please meet me at Shinjuku Station at 6:45pm.
Sincerely,
Nishikido Ryo
Ryo nervously pressed the SENT button after re-reading his reply a numerous times, making sure not to sound offensive to the sensitive princess. In an instant, Ueda replied back with a “fine”. Ryo rolled his eyes and looked over at the time on the bottom right hand corner of his computer screen to check out the time. He had approximately 4 hours left and he better brainstorm for a better idea for the novel to prove that prissy writer that …well..he, Nishikido Ryo, was competent in every way and more! As much as he rather not see Ueda more than once per day and just get drunk after work to numb his brain from thinking about his miserable situation, he had to.
Thinking about drinking with his friends at the red-light district like the red-blooded male made him miss his youth.
“Wait a min…” Ryo stopped his daydream and mumbled, “Red-light district….Courtesan?”
Like a lightning struck his head, Ryo felt giddy and excited. With a small smile, he could not wait to present his idea to Ueda later.
~//~
He could not believe he was walking towards the train station. Ueda Tatsuya had better things to do than meet his annoying editor after office hour. He had laundry to fold, Mizuki’s lunchbox to make and most of all, Nishikido Ryo was going to waste his time. He rather be at home with his daughter.
After what happened earlier today, he wished he never saw Ryo ever again. But since ranting to Kazuya during lunch, Tatsuya realized that the success of his novel was on the line and he had to tolerate Ryo’s presence in his life. He let out a heavy sigh and hoped that nimrod will not take too much of his time. Tatsuya quickly hid a sinister smile as he approached the man who had grumpy look on his face.
“You’re late! It’s past 7 already!” Ryo yelled.
“I know.” Tatsuya replied blankly. Ryo glared at him before quickly brushing it off.
“Anyway… Thank you for coming on the short notice.” Ryo said awkwardly. “Let’s go...”
“Where are we going?” Tatsuya asked, crossing his arms and followed Ryo who kept on walking.
“The idea you wrote on the email. Don’t you think this historical tragedy you’ve been writing is getting overboard?” Ryo said straightforwardly.
“Excuse me?” Tatsuya replied defensively. He really did not expect Ryo to dismiss his idea.
“After reading the drafts you sent, it felt like I was re-reading the same plot in your other novels. A historical romance with an abandoned heroine who attained prideful self-sufficiency...” Ryo continued and by the frown on the princess’s face, he knew that he had hit a nerve. “I am not referring to your writing skill. I am certain you can come up with something different and unique.”
Ryo stopped on his track and looked up at the tall arch, boldly decorated with red neon lights.
“Then what do you proposed that I write?” Tatsuya replied haughtily, still was not convinced at what Ryo said.
“This.” Ryo gestured to the arch entrance in front of them, “I proposed that you should write about Kabukicho. Aside from its sleazy exterior, it is actually rich in history…don’t you think so?”
Tatsuya stood back and observed his surroundings. The flashy neon lights of the buildings were attracting sinners like moths to the flame. Banners of escort clubs were plastered all over the streets, parading their “number 1” hostess and hoping to entice lecherous customers to spend their money on alcohol and momentary happiness.
The writer shook his head in dismay and turned around. He wanted elegance and beauty in his story but Ryo’s concept was vulgar and crude to him. He should have expected something like this from someone like Ryo.
“Is this a joke? Do you want me to punch you again?” Tatsuya asked coldly.
“Huh?” Ryo replied in confusion. “Of course not! Why would you think so?”
“Correct me if I’m wrong but you’re telling me that I should write about Kabukicho, right?” Tatsuya clarified, trying hard not to kill his Editor.
“Yes!” Ryo exclaimed, “I know it’s not your cup of tea but! Do you know why it’s named Kabukicho?”
“Obviously I do! I’m not stupid or uncultured like you.” Tatsuya retorted, “It was named from ‘kabuki’. It was originally a swamp and the area was known as Tsunohazu. After the 2nd World War, a Kabuki theater was planned to be built here but it never happened due to financial problems. Not long after, Chinese immigrants came and helped develop this place and cabaret was introduced.”
“Aren’t you a clever little wikipedia~” Ryo replied. “Here’s my suggestion! You can keep your depressing romance plot. However, the time period should be change to 1940s instead of 12th century. Think of something like that sappy extravagant Moulin Rouge movie girls love to watch. I think your readers will love cabaret, stockings and corsets…and I know you’re into those kinds of fetish.”
Tatsuya was about to retort back when a tall macho crossdresser in tight pink lingerie walked past them and went inside a sex shop.
“Right... Moulin Rouge... “ Tatsuya scoffed, “You do realize that I have to rewrite those 5 chapters I sent you today and write another 5 chapters by next week IF I decide to change the theme.”
Ryo gave a smirk, took out a packet of his Malboro Red and lit one cigarette.
“Then I guess…you have to start tonight. As for me, I’m going to drink till I’m wasted... Unless you want to join me?” Ryo raised his brows and smiled gleefully as the brown-haired man gave him a death glare. His face was calm but Ryo knew Tatsuya was fuming with rage underneath that composed exterior.
Tatsuya tasted bitterness in his mouth. If he could, he would have smack Nishikido Ryo again. He was not going to allow this shameless alcohol guzzling, tobacco inhaling brat do whatever he wants. He refused to let Nishikido Ryo doubt his vision for his book.
“No.” Tatsuya said firmly, “I will not change anything. Your ideas are absurd and irrelevant to my novel. Yet again, you wasted my time.”
Ryo exhaled a cancerous cloud of smoke as Tatsuya turned around and walked away. He knew he was right and he knew Tatsuya thought so too. Unfortunately, Tatsuya was too resentful towards him to admit it. He gave a shrug and walked through the flashy entrance of Kabukicho. Ryo’s gut feeling was telling him that Tatsuya will make the changes he suggested.
And since he was going to work on a story about the place, he might as well get to know the place fully!
