tissue cultures....ew.....

My hospital lab job is interesting. Here's why....

Tissue cultures are pretty nasty. I had to grind up bits of a human toe today. It was for a gram stain and four plate cultures. Doing the cultures was cake...it was the grinding that was....*shudders*....icky. The sound of crunching bone is not pleasant...nor is the sensation. It is scary...I am slowly becoming desensitized to all of the blood, guts, and sputum I have to culture everyday. I KNOW what you are thinking...is she nuts? Yeah...probably.

I guess working in a vet clinic, seeing this sort of stuff everyday for two years kind of prepared me. However, I am a bit more queasy when I see human blood, then if it was animal blood. I HAVE to get over this. I am supposedly to start drawing patient's blood come May. MAY! yikes.

Things are pretty good elsewhere in my life. School is going well. I'm so happy about my unknowns project. I already know just by looking at my slants that I have S.pyogenes. However I'm on the fence with my tube B. It could either be P. mirabilis or P. vulgaris. Apparently if I innoculate a SIMS and add Kovacs, a red result will be positive for mirabilis. So I'll just do that. Then I'll know. As for the other one, I inoculated a blood plate, which will show beta hemolysis..so that should seal the deal and I won't have to prove my findings any more than that. Dr. Ivey gave me a nifty t-shirt today at the IRMC lab...apparently Fridays are T-shirt days. so cool. I need to wash my scrubs...and buy another pair.

I love my car, and now I love it even more. I got my T.A.P.S. decal sticker today in the mail. Excitement!!! I love that show...now everyone else will know because I put it on the back window of my car. Yes. I am a dork.

Laters.
