there's this cynical man in the book i just started reading The Epicure's Lament. It's interesting. ^.^

"Nerves, the electrical wiring of the body. Wish I could short-circuit myself." (pg 11)

"My death isn't anything I fear or abhor. It's mine alone, and I'd like to be left in peace to get on with it." (pg 42)

denniis talking about his wife: "And sometimes he did still want her. But she'd made herself so remote and inaccessible, the effort it seemed it would take to arouse her seemed as if it wouldn't ultimately be worth the payoff, so he'd just given up altogether." (pg 49)

Stephanie Fox: "Men are programmed to either please women or defy them; there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. IF they defy their wives, we get angry. If they're too eager to please, we get bored. Men as a species need to evolve to the next level." (pg 59)

"I don't believe in God, by which I mean I don't think about God." (pg 217) [sorry to those who are religious, it was an interesting statement in an interesting context]

a catholic ex-hit man: "Taking your own life is a sin. Taking the life of a scumbag who's asking for it is just social hygiene." (pg 218)

the cynic's brother to the cynic: "Your problem is that you have lost all hope. Hope is not somethign you sit around and wait to have hit you in the side of the head. Hope is something you cultivate and develop through action - it's a skill. It's a moral necessity." (pg 224)
