Daily Blog 16: The Grand Tour

Jun 21, 2018 13:58

I have a lot of work to do tonight, when I go home, so I am on my lunch, and thought I would write today's entry a little early. I have a video to do, studying to do and try and tidy up a little. Because I have been feeling so up and down, everything is a tip. And it is getting on my nerves.

This afternoon I have a tour to do. We have 28 new starts coming into the building, to start working tomorrow. And my job is to give them a tour of the Warehouse, and give them a test, which is to check that they can read English okay and have picked up the key safety information from the tour. I sounds pretty nerve wrecking, but it is a good challenge. Because I feel geniunely happy at Amazon, I think it is a good shot to give a positive experience to new people. A lot of the press concentrates on how badly staff are treated, and how poorly people get paid. I get paid standard wages, i get paid overtime rates for anything worked over my contracted 40 hours, and noone has every spoke to me like crap (unlike my last job). The only people who get a rough ride, are the people who aren't prepared and want to skive. I mean, I can easily walk 6-7 miles during a 10 hour shift, failing that you are on your feet all day. It does physically suck for the first few weeks.

I just like changing people's expectations. I mean, Amazon are paying for a Summer fun day at Edinburgh Zoo. How many companies do that?
