the most important thing that I learned about being a DJ from past experiences working for DJ's is that you don't really need to know much about the craft of DJ-ing itself if you know how to cash in on a niche market... like south asians, or queers. i learned that one from DJ Rekha, but it's a lesson that creates early obsolescence in a world where everyone with talent can access their dreams via the web and some common sense.
i need to work out this holiday mix for people asap. it's almost 2010. Making a retrospective mix is crucial this year. when it's done i'll celebrate another crazy decade and send all the homies a copy. it's super exciting to see all the awesome new DJ's coming up around That's My Jam, I've got a ton to learn from all of them.
