Ode to Yavapai Cookie Hour

May 01, 2006 14:05

Every Sunday, sometime between church and bed, I take a minute to think about what I have to do with my week. Looking forward, there never seems to be quite enough time to get it all done. Somehow, every Monday afternoon at 2:00 for two semesters I've found myself sitting at my computer with nothing really pressing to do, waiting impatiently for cookie hour. Time slows down on Mondays between 2 and 2:30. No matter how much I have to do, there's never enough to keep my mind off of the delicious cookiness that happens at 2:30. Today is my last cookie hour, probably ever, so I thought I'd take a moment to reflect on great cookie hour moments. Cookie hour is that time of the week when I temporarily forget about fitting into a wedding dress. Chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, Elspeth's favorite wafer cookies (that don't absorb milk at all), pink frosted animal cookies, mysterious chocolate covered mounds that turn out to have marshmallow in them, a whole semester perfecting the timing of dipping an oreo in milk so it won't disintegrate in the milk, but it will in your mouth, chocolate cookies, vanilla cookies, cookies filled with jam. . . If I remember nothing else from my first year of college, I will remember the joyful times spent with my Y-pai friends, dipping cookies in milk and forgetting about school and stress for a few happy moments each week. Thank you cookie hour, for defining my first year college experience. You've been one of a kind!
