A few months back I found a mix cd that I had made over seven years ago. It was a mix I had put together during the height of my stay in the Sirius/Remus fandom. It got me feeling all nostalgic and I decided to revamp the mix and post it up here. Of course, it the process of the revamp the mix began to take up a life of its own. Very few songs from the original actually made it onto the final mix. It became something brand new.
And then this past week my friend henriettayuki wrote accompanying mini-fic for ever single song like the rockstar she is. She totally blew my mind with her levels of awesome-ness. Seriously, my friends spoil me rotten. (I'm looking at you too, mad_teagirl, for you baked us brownies while myself and henriettayuki were geeking out in our old fandom.)

a story in three acts
Act Three
1. Great Lake Swimmers - Concrete Heart
This was the centre of the world for me once
Where I saw "I love you" all over the place
This is the place where I felt
Like the world's tallest self-supporting tower
At least for a little while anyway
Remus took the steps up to Hogwarts slowly. He heard the students laugh and remembered voices of his friends long gone and far away. He didn't pause or dwell at the thought but rather continued walking to his classroom with a purposeful stride.
2. Cat Stevens - Trouble
Trouble, oh trouble move away
I have seen your face
and it's too much for me today
Trouble, oh trouble can't you see
You have made me a wreck
Now won't you leave me in my misery
Remus watched Harry and his friends talk and watch their backs cautiously as if Sirius Black could come out of nowhere at anytime. He wished he could tell them that he wouldn't let it happen again. He wouldn't let his love blind his judgment. Sirius won't hurt them because he won't let it happen again.
3. Michael Giacchino - We’re Friends
[INSTRUMENTAL]
Remus lowered his wand and gazed fixedly at Sirius. He had been wrong. The whole time, he had been wrong. He sized Sirius' hand, heaving him to his feet and pulled him into a warm embrace. Thank god... he had been wrong.
4. Beirut - Cherbourg
Well it's been a long time
Since I've seen you smile
Gambled away my fright
Till the morning lights shine
Sirius' eyes were darting back and forth suspiciously. Remus chuckled boyishly and the shifting gaze stopped on him. "What?"
"It..." Remus smiled; it was older with age but familiar nonetheless. "It's good to see you again."
Sirius watched him then grinned. "Likewise, Moony. Likewise."
5. Patrick Wolf - On Sussex Downs
For today I am a wild creature,
And tomorrow I will be lost again
Sirius stared out into the rain. The ripples on the pond, the droplets on his face, the smell of it all... He grinned at the small things he never thought he would miss so much.
"You're going to catch a cold like that."
Sirius turned and grinned. "I don't care. It feels fucking amazing." He closed his eyes and turned his face up to the sky to feel the soft patter on his skin.
6. The Beatles - Long, Long, Long
It's been a long, long, long time
How could I ever have lost you
When I loved you
Remus gasped as he gripped shoulders so familiar yet different with age. He felt Sirius' kisses on his cheeks, his lips, his neck. "I've missed you. I've missed you. I've missed you." It was a mantra that Remus couldn't hold back.
Sirius pushed him onto his back and their eyes met. Sirius grinned. "I can tell."
Remus blushed then held onto him as he leaned in. "You're an asshole." Remus felt Sirius' hands grip tighter on his hips.
"But you missed me."
Remus responded with a gasp and arched into Sirius' touch.
7. Ryan Adams - Wonderwall
Backbeat the word was on the street
That the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before
But you never really had a doubt
I don't believe that anybody feels
The way I do about you now
They weren't bothering with the words. They were making up for lost time. Words left unsaid were left unspoken. Cruel things spoken in a different time were not being taken back decades later, rather they were left to decay and disappear. It was time they chased. So much had been left undone. So many things had been left incomplete. They lost so much time that baited breaths and sweat-drenched skin couldn't restore. But they tried anyway and it helped.
8. Editors - Well Worn Hand
Today I heard some bad news
Just what are we all supposed to do?
I won't let them get to you
Remus was packing the last of their plates when he felt arms on his shoulders. He turned but Sirius' gaze was far off.
"Why can't we just stay here?"
Remus kissed his arm. "It's not safe." Remus kept his eyes on Sirius but Sirius' never turned from the window as he committed every moment of their short happiness to memory.
9. Grizzly Bear - A Good Place
I woke up understated
A simple feeling, aimed at you
Remus kissed Sirius' bare shoulder. "We can make this work," he whispered.
"I hate it here."
"We'll make it work." Sirius snorted and turned onto his back. Remus laid half on Sirius as he looked around. "I mean...this is your childhood bedroom. You can't think of something..." Remus blushed at Sirius' lecherous grin as he caught onto Remus' train of thought.
"Wow, Moony. I didn't think you had it in you."
Remus buried his face into Sirius' shoulder. "Shut up." Sirius kissed his forehead. "We'll make it work."
10. Sondre Lerche - Dare To Be Surprised
When I wrap my arms around you
Every mistake we made crumbles
When I wrap my arms around you
Everything echoes a new song
Remus yelped as Sirius' hands pushed up his shirt. "Crap, Sirius!" Sirius chuckled into his neck. "Stop. Someone might see us."
Sirius just laughed as he wrapped his arms around Remus' waist. "Who cares." He watched as Remus finished the Christmas decorations in the room. "It looks good, love."
"It looks crooked."
"Well..."
Remus looked at him then shrieked. "Sirius!" Remus shoved Sirius' hands off his belt and pushed him away. "Go somewhere and be productive!" Remus blushed heavily and Sirius just chuckled.
"Ok. Ok. Party pooper."
Remus watched him leave then turned back to the garland. It was definitely crooked. Remus screamed as Sirius tackled him into the bed. He laughed at Sirius' hands tickling and pinching his sides. "Get off you pervert! AH!" Remus laughed and delighted in the rare laughs he heard in return.
11. Frightened Rabbit - Old Old Fashioned
If we both get old fashioned
We won't have to rely on our memories
Oh let's get old fashioned
Back to how things used to be
If I get old, old fashioned
Would you get old, old fashioned with me?
"Come on. You're acting like an old man."
Remus didn't look away from his book. "I am an old man."
Sirius yanked the book away but Remus half expected it and just waited patiently. "Come on, get up."
"The last ten times you tried to teach me to dance it ended up with me being laughed at or you being a pervert." Despite his complaints, Remus was getting on his feet.
"I didn't know those were grievances." Remus gave him a look but let Sirius take his hand. "Come on, just follow my lead. You don't want me to forget my moves, do you?"
"Yeah, right." Remus sighed but his slight grin gave him away. Sirius smiled brightly and started dancing, his hand firm against Remus'.
12. Loney, Dear - I Love You (In With The Arms)
How can you manage?
How can you bear me now?
Keeping me calm
Keeping me calm, like you do
Sirius sat at the window silently.
"Hey, we're about to start the meeting."
"Hm." Sirius didn't move. He watched the cars drive past, the people who trudged along without looking.
Remus' hand nudged his face toward him. "Don't torture yourself. Come on."
Sirius nodded and stood. He looked back outside and missed the freedom.
13. Nicholas Hooper - Friends and Love
[INSTRUMENTAL]
"Sirius, please stop."
Sirius turned from the window. "What?"
Remus rested his chin against the crown of Sirius' head. "Don't do this. Please." Sirius reached up and brushed the hair from Remus' face.
They stared at each other silently before Sirius stood. "Come on."
Remus let himself be led to the bed and closed his eyes, letting Sirius set him down feeling the feather kisses against his exposing skin. It was a distraction... but it helped.
14. Wolf Parade - I’ll Believe In Anything
And I could take another hit for you
And I could take away your trips from you
And I could take away the salt from your eyes
I'd take you where nobody knows you
And nobody gives a damn
Sirius laughed as Remus kept his distance, a playful grin teasing Sirius, taunting him. "You're a fucking prick, Remus."
Remus laughed. "Says you. You're just jealous."
"Jealous, my ass." Sirius faked a right before jumping on the couch and climbing over the back. It tipped under his weight. "Oh shit! Fuck!" Remus ran forward and they tumbled into each other's arms, into the wall and to the floor. They laughed.
"What are you two doing!?" They laughed louder as arms playfully tangled with legs. "You're grown men!"
"Never!" Sirius yelled and the door slammed shut. Sirius looked at Remus and grabbed his face. He kissed him fully. As he pulled away, he grinned. "I love you."
Remus smiled. "I love you too."
15. Snow Patrol - Run
Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear
Sirius' eyes widened in shock then fell back in a graceful arc. Remus' body stood frozen, Sirius' name restricted in his throat. He could see the unfamiliar expression of surprise and fear on that beautiful face. He opened his mouth as Sirius disappeared behind the veil. "SIRIUS!" It wasn't his voice. He saw Harry scramble toward the ancient doorway and darted forward to stop him. His arms wrapped around the boy's chest.
"It's too late, Harry." His voice sounded strange to his own ears. "There's nothing you can do."
16. Broken Records - A Promise
And as the sun died
I promised that I'd seek you out
Well now the years have weathered me
And soon I'll claim you for my arms again
Remus felt his heart stop. The coldness spread from his chest to his fingers. His wand slipped from numb fingertips. His knees gave way. He closed his eyes. Sirius. Is this what it feels like? He didn't feel his body hit the ground. He felt a warm embrace. Remus opened his eyes but knew he was no longer trapped under the heavy weight of his dying body. He stared up into playful gray eyes.
"You're such a klutz." A teasing smile taunted him. Remus stood straight with Sirius' help.
"And you're still an asshole."
Sirius laughed loudly as Remus shook his head and chuckled under his breath.
