While I fret over watching
the NY Senate live stream as they vote on same-sex marriage in the state,
were_duck gave me some more questions:
1. What's your favorite part of the vidding process?
I like most parts of it, apart from clipping and exporting, both of which I find needlessly tedious. I think my favourite part is probably when I have a complete first draft and can play it back. The vid will usually be at a stage where I know there's lots I still want to do, but I'm able to see that it's going to come together. This is particularly satisfying when it's a vid I've been planning for a long time, and something from my brain is finally on screen. Vidding is magic! It's also an eminently stupid hobby sometimes, but there you go.
2. Favorite doppelcest pairing?
Ahahaha. So many to choose from these days! *g* In terms of actual ships I think are genuinely interesting and would like to read long, plotty fic for: Olivia/Altlivia from Fringe.
But for sheer hotness/squee factor - Amy/Amy, hands down. Sometimes my show is good to me!
3. Tell me about a book that's really important to you.
A book I mentioned in my last set of questions that probably isn't particularly well known is The Singing Stone by O. R. Melling. Melling is an Irish-Canadian children's author who I fell in love with when I was living in Ireland. She stories based on Irish mythology, often involving modern kids being caught up in Ireland's history or finding themselves in a magical Celtic world.
The Singing Stone is about a girl called Kay, who lives alone and has strange dreams until a series of mysterious events lead her to Ireland to uncover her past. There's a quest, symbols and portents, time travel, hidden powers, a magical destiny, and a really fantastic girl friendship between Kay and Aherne, a woman she meets on her travels.
Also, (spoilers for the end of the book and Doctor Who) (
skip) It is eventually revealed that Kay is Aherne's daughter, with timey-wimey shenanigans involved. So I think it's fair to say I sort of latched onto that particular plot device from a young age, which is probably part of why I like the River-Amy reveal so much.
4. What's your favorite community on Dreamwidth and why?
Well, excluding comms I mod, though I am very fond of them too, I have a lot of love for
camelot_fleet,
fucking_meds,
kink_bingo and
multibeautiful. Which is four rather than one, but ssh.
5. How did you get into Doctor Who?
OKAY SO. I grew up on sci-fi shows, specifically Star Trek. My parents were avid TNG fans, and later we all enjoyed watching DS9 and Voyager. As well as whichever seasons were currently airing, I used to watch re-runs every day after school. I read tie-in novels and encyclopaedias cover to cover. I had a lot of feelings about Star Trek, and space, and all the rest of it.
And then, well, I went to secondary school and gradually figured out that being a geek wasn't cool, and disavowed all interest in it.
I was fifteen when Doctor Who came back on the air. I had no interest in watching it, having never seen the old series. Happily, my dad convinced me we should give it a go. I sat down, and watched Rose, and fell completely in love. I remembered how awesome it is to be a geek, and I haven't looked back. :D
