Anti Smoking Commercials

Now, I know I don't smoke, and generally speaking, anti smoking commercials don't really bother me. They infuriate Mutant, who them smokes more to be contrary, but I normally don't mind them.

Until I saw this one.

I tried searching it on YouTube, so you could see what I'm talking about, but it isn't there. My not-nearly-as-potent description will have to suffice.

The commercial starts out with a young boy, maybe three or four years old, standing in the middle of a crowded place, like a train station or something. The boy looks around, getting increasingly upset and confused, until he starts crying. Not fake crying either, like actor kids do. This kid is doing the "scared crying" (mom's here probably know what I'm talking about, and know just how heartbreaking scared crying is) thing, for a full minute
(I timed it). A voice over comes on and says:

"This is how your child feels when he loses you for just one minute. Imagine how he would feel if he lost you for good."

And then the "Quit smoking hotline" comes up on the screen. Now, I didn't say anything when they brought out the guy with the tracheotomy thing and had him talk about how much he misses swimming. I didn't mind it when they showed the guy sitting in a hospital gown, imaging the doctor was about to come in and list various afflictions that he might have. The "Truth.com" commercials didn't even bother me, they just made me roll my eyes. But this commercial pissed me right the fuck off. They took a little boy, and scared the HELL out of him to get "authentic tears" for their fucking message. And don't even get me started on the mother who would allow
her child to be scared like that. Now, again, I'm not a smoker, and I doubt I'll ever smoke. It's just not my thing, honestly, but that doesn't mean I have the right to tell anyone else they can't. I don't even tell Mutant he can't smoke, I just ask him to take it outside, or at least in the bathroom where the vent leads outside. I can't even watch this commercial anymore, it's THAT sad. And I know, I know, the point of the fucking thing is to tug at heartstrings of parent smokers so they'll quit, but good fucking CHRIST, there IS A LINE that should NOT ever be crossed, and this commercial, in my opinion, crossed it. Smokers already can't smoke in their homes (most of them), in bars or clubs anymore, or even certain areas that are OUTSIDE (And I'm not talking about near hospital or school entrances. I'm talking about the jerkoffs
who tell you you can't smoke in front of their store, even if you're just walking by), now they have to put shit like this on the air.

It really pisses me off sometimes.

bitchiness, anti smoking, commercials
