I am off to Amsterdam in a couple of hours. I don't really know what to expect from the 'Venice of the North', but it will be good to find out.
I have spent most of the last couple of nights tormented by dreams of evolutionary algorithms. I think I as able to prove, as far as I know, a novel (and trivial) lemma tonight. As I begin to understand this algorithm better and better I can't help but feel that things are coming into focus. For the technically minded, I am not convinced that the canonical genetic algorithm is a form of mixed breadth-depth first search. If this turns out to have the mathematical form of a perfectly rational Bayesian updater then the world might be a really strange place. I am bringing some algebra homework with me to Amsterdam, in case I decide to experiment with something.
Also, abstract algebra is incredible! Lets replace calculus everywhere with algebra and combinatorics.
