Because they've both grown since the last meeting.

"Who in Super Junior do you think is the best?" They ask her, for old time's sake, and Kyuhyun's stomach twists into a loop. He wonders if her answer would stay the same, even after all these years, although it really shouldn't matter what she thinks of him.

But he readies his two expressions - one of happy surprise, complete with fist pumps, and one of comical, heart-wrenching disappointment. Not that he'll feel the latter, of course, because this really means nothing to him. Just a job, nothing else.

Charice saunters up to them, a deliberate smile on her face identical to the last time she saw them. But this time, she makes a show of examining each member before steadying her gaze at Kyuhyun.

"I still think he's the best." she says, with a grin that can rival Zhou Mi's, and Kyuhyun leaps up, arms outstretched in victory, and smiles back with a strange sense of relief flooding through him. Must be the pre-performance jitters, he tells himself, although he hasn't had that in years.

They sing, no surprise there, "A Whole New World," because it's Kyuhyun's song and it's their song. And Kyuhyun has sung it with plenty of girls in numerous of duets - classmates, friends, family members both old and young - but he enjoyed it the most when it was Charice. Fourteen year old Charice with a voice that boomed through the room and, Kyuhyun suspected then, could even stop tides if she so wished.

He sings the first few lines, starting off gentle, because she's the star here, and he's not about to take her rightful spotlight from her. When she sings, he closes his eyes and lets her voice wash over him, permeate him with its rich, deep sound that seem to vibrate down to his very bones. And when they sing together, he focuses on complementing rather than overtaking, because he'll get his moment to stand out elsewhere. This is her show, and he'll help her shine however he can.

They finish to a slightly dazed audience and standing ovations from the other Star King guests. They gush over their duet, although Kyuhyun knows the praise is all for her, and he's ok with it, because he wants to shower her in praise too. So when they take a break for filming, he sneaks backstage, and does.

"You did good," he tells her in accented English, because languages have never been Kyuhyun's forte. He watches her smile, wide and genuine, her eyes crinkling at the edges, and can't help but return it.

"Thank you." She looks up at him, "You are very good at singing too."

"Thank you." Kyuhyun replies quietly. Charice has really pretty eyes. He wants to tell her this, but it sounds so simple, so instead he says, "Chocolate. Milk chocolate."

Charice blinks. "Chocolate? Where?"

"Your - your eyes. Like, like chocolate." he finishes, flapping his hands awkwardly the way Zhou Mi does when he’s flustered, and to his dismay, Charice bursts into laughter.

"I'm not food," she tells him between giggles, "and that is really unflattering. I can't help but think you want to eat my eyes."

Kyuhyun doesn't understand half of what she said, but he smiles along. Raking his brain for other things to say, because God knows the four years of English lessons were not in vain, he stutters out, "Drink. Want to go to drink? With me?" And yeah, that's definitely up there with Donghae’s English disasters. Even if a hole were to suddenly appear in the ground, God would be too kind.

But still, she takes his hand between hers and carefully enunciates "Yes," and it takes Kyuhyun all he's got not to let out a loud whoop. Seems like he will not be needing that hole after all.
