Ahhh...Downside to skimming around LJ and looking for spoilers: running across irritating pieces of information.....
CoE2....Apparently, there's a casting call out for "Brad," a 20-something bartender with whom Jack will have a hot one-night stand. Obvious ploy for viewers is obvious: making sure everyone knows there will be not just explicit, but graphic, sex.....Whatever.
I'm more interested in the further decline of the character of Jack Harkness. The age difference between Jack and Ianto worked, because GDL played Ianto as aged beyond his years; in addition, the characters were written such that Jack let Ianto call the shots--Ianto made all the decisions about the relationship, its depth, and its direction (at least, prior to the incoherent debacle that was CoE). This neatly avoided the ICK factor of a 130+ year old chasing after his 20 something employee....a potentially revolting situation that the writers sidestepped; instead, they made the relationship interesting and touching.
Those days are gone. CoE reduced Ianto to a clingy, whiney male version of Rose; Jack seemed to have little use for him. Then "End of Time" (an even more incoherent debacle--who would have thought it possible?) came along, and Jack's picking up a 20 something in a bar, under the encouragement of the Doctor As Panderer. Now Jack's going after another 20 something (in a bar again?). I guess this is Jack's new character--what used to be known as a chicken hawk.
In the meantime, a blatant move to separate former TW fans from their cash: pre-CoE audio books. Are they kidding me? Obvious ploy is obvious....Seems the Ianto fans are supposed to "move on," except when they might generate some income.
Well, at least skipping around Teh Interwebz did yield better information....spoilers beginning to come faster and faster for the DW Christmas special--some reviews, all of which promise more of the brilliance of last season. I can't wait. Moving on, indeed....Moving on up.
