So this wintertime I had a month and a handful of days off, which was fantastic. We had a family trip to
Sun Moon Lake, and while we were there, of course I was taking pictures. I was talking to my sister about how we never look at the pictures we take anyway, so why was I still taking pictures all the time? Then I thought of how the only time I would sit down to look at pictures was during class slide shows of our grade. Sooo Cin and I decided to make a slide show, burn it onto a DVD, and give it to the parents for Christmas.
Anyway, the slide show turned out to be a big hit with the family. Dad wants me to add more to it so he can mail a copy to the relatives. My point is, while I was hunting up pictures, I found several of Mom knitting and sewing stuff she gave to us. I asked her if I could see what she'd made during the past several months (for a while, she was really into sweater vests, then hats, then bags). She told me she had given them all away.
So I dug up some of the things she'd made for us and decided to make a portfolio for her so she could show family and friends what'd she'd made.
Yeah, that was a pretty rambly story. Anyway, first up: a journal she made for me. She made the whole thing from scratch, including sewing the cover, pressing the flowers into the paper, and gluing the inside pages together. I love the little bunches of grapes she made out of shiny purple beads stitched onto the cover.
My Christmas present from Mom, December 2007.
The inside, back flap.
Homemade Christmas ornaments my mom made for my sister this winter so she can decorate her door room.
I love dogs, so Mom made this for me for Christmas :D The bones tucked into the doggy sweater are supposed to be coasters.
Lavender I picked last summer were stuffed into these to make scented packets to hang in the closet. I can't wait to stick it in my dorm closet b/c that thing smells pretty musty.
I used to make boxes like this all the time. Haha yes, my arty-crafty attempt really pales in comparison to everything else :P
Best thing about having such a long holiday? FOOD! So much good food, all my favorites! Food post coming up so when I'm far away from all the awesome CHEAP food, I can look at the pictures and up the craving.
