After spending a few days dismantling my studio and then putting it back together, I felt I was able to "get clear" and sit down and do some drawing last night. I was supposed to go to a life drawing session, but an afternoon nap made me late and then trains were cancelled, but I was already "in the mood" to draw so spent my Friday evening listening to Queen up high on my headphones (the new film, which I haven't seen yet, has generated my interest) and did this and a couple other doodles.

What I attempt to do with Star wars characters is create a shorthand in my mind for each character, and there's a few I draw over and over. What life drawing has taught me is to try and construct the different poses and do a full figure study, and use no reference if I can help it. I don't normally draw Yoda so I did use some reference for his features but the pose and angle are my own. I need to practice drawing him more. For Rey, sitting attentively beside him, I attempted the pose from my head and only used the Rey doll I have for some face reference. She is another character I need to practice. Daisy Ridley has a very clear, wide open face with a lot of space between her features, interesting to draw. I try to tell a story with the drawing, illustrate a moment. Its frustrating because I no longer draw for a living and so i feel like I may be practicing for race I'm not in. But I am compelled towards it so I do. You never know.
